Fuzzy Vogue

The good news is that I am loving the new Vogue.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Missoni for Target...What's not to love?
The bad news? While waiting in line to pay for my magazine I started flipping through the pages. Why was everything so fuzzy? Had I gone blind in the past week? Evidently yes, yes I had, because I couldn't read one stinking word. I wasn't about to put my magazine back, so I got out of line and found me a pair of...

Seeing eye glasses (as opposed to sunglasses). Yes, I am now the proud owner of magnifying glasses from the grocery store. If you have ever wondered who would buy glasses at the grocery store, now you know. It's me. You wouldn't believe what a difference they make. No more large print books from the library for me. Kidding. Sort of.
What about you? Anything looking fuzzy?

Dear Flor

Dear Mr. (or Mrs.) Flor Tiles,
I have long admired your Flor tiles and even ordered two sets of samples for my poor sad laundry room. Last December my laundry room floor sent out a cry for help.

"Help!"

Not one to ignore the needy I got to work on a plan. A plan that involved painting this design on my floor.

The pattern proved too difficult, so with the help of my painter friend Ann, we came up with this...

Not too bad and after spending two full days taping off the floor and painting one small section I realized I hated it. Tragic, I know. It was time to go back to the drawing board. (This is where the story gets good)

Then it hit me, forget painting. What about Flor Tiles? They come in hundreds of cool colors and patterns.

They would cozy up my laundry room and give it a fresh clean look. Samples were ordered, styles were picked. It was time to place an order.

Then more tragedy; a plumbing bill the size of Texas. I know it is not polite to discuss money, so let's just say that the bill had three zero's in it. No more money for Flor Tiles.

I wasn't even going for something crazy. Just the Toy Poodle in yellow and white. Wouldn't it look great in a checker board pattern? Or maybe one of your fabulous patterns? Decisions, decisions.

So, if you have some extras just laying around and you want to trade them for free advertising on my blog e-mail me: siskotte@ec.rr.com
This could be so fun for both of us. I could take before, during and after shots. Show everyone how easy it is and how good the product looks. Doesn't that sound like such a good time? Readers, wouldn't you love to see Flor Tiles in action in my laundry room? (you all need to respond so Mr. & Mrs. Flor Tile will see how many wonderful customers, I mean readers, they will be reaching.)
Thanks so much!
Sissy

SAC ART

As promised here are the shopping details from Friday...

Sac Art
Susan & Tom Covington
Corner of Castle Street and Wrightsville Ave
A warehouse full of fabulous finds.

Vintage film cabinet? Yes, please.

Need an old door, mantle or sign? This is the place for you.
Susan & Tom can do just about anything. Susan can design and decorate your home and whatever she dreams up Tom can build.

Susan and Tom have helped me with several projects around my house. One of my very favorites is my baby gate.

I had an old door sitting around that I had no plans for, so Susan took it and had Tom make it into a dutch door with textured glass. I added a sliding lock on one side and...

Ta-Da! Stylish baby gate. Sure he can open it now, but for several years this fab door kept Butterball from escaping the kitchen and den area. It's much better when you know where you baby is...

Are you itching to get in that warehouse or need something with a little personality? Call Susan at 910-262-5111 or e-mail at: scovington31@gmail.com

Have you ever...

Seen anything so cool? It's a folding day bed!!
It's old and from an artist's studio in New Orleans.

It even has it's own ID number. I think it would be fabulous set up permanently as a day bed or folded and kept under a bed to pull out for overnight guest. Wouldn't your kids love to sleep on this?

I saw it, couldn't resist it, but I have no room in the Inn, my guest room or my booth, so I am considering selling it. Since I have never seen anything like this and can't find anything similar on the Internet I have no idea of it's value. Here's where you come in...you got anything for me? Info? Ideas? Let me know. (And Ann don't worry, you get first shot at it)

At the same fabulous shopping spot I also picked up this chaise lounge.

Anybody need a project? Anybody want to know where I picked up my new additions? Well, I am going to tell you. On Monday. So be sure to stop back by for all the shopping info.

Any info or interest leave a comment or e-mail me at siskotte@ec.rr.com

Have a great weekend!!

Caftan Crisis

Don't you hate when you're a day late and a dollar short?

Or in this case almost $175 short.

Vintage caftan on Ebay that was sure to bring me years of happiness.

According to the email I just got I didn't "win" it, so I guess it is going to bring someone else years of happiness. Wouldn't this have been perfect for my daily trips to the grocery store and Target because, really, where else do I go?

Monkey See - Monkey Do Mirror

So, if you have been reading this blog for long, you know I love sunburst mirrors and crafts. What could be better? Combining the two of course!! Wood shims + wood glue = Sunburst Mirror

Yep, made it myself. Of course, I didn't think of it myself. No, it has been all over the Internet. I copied mine from Addicted to Decorating.

She has great DIY instructions. She also has better pictures than I do.

I started out being a good monkey and copying her exactly. This is my first section. I then decided I wanted my mirror to be a little spikier so I broke all the shims apart and added one longer piece in the middle.

You can see the difference here, if you squint. It made me happy.

After gluing 3451 shims together I added the smaller pieces around the inside of the mirror and...

I was almost done. I need to add a polyurethane type finish with a hint of color. The stuff I bought wasn't right so I will try again tomorrow. Want to know where I am hanging it? I have no clue. And no spot for it. It is BIG, almost 3 feet across. I could sell it in my booth, but I don't know if I can part with it. For now I'll just keep dragging it around my house until I find that perfect spot. Don't you love a good craft?

Ya-Ya Sisterhood

Did you read Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood? I did and loved it.

Did you see the movie?

I didn't, but I think I am going to have to rent it because while out shopping in one of my favorite haunts I came across these...

Shorts that were used in the movie! They are old and a little dingy, but so cool I couldn't leave them behind. I can get in them (sort of), but shorts that could double as underwear are not really my style. I am thinking about framing them and hanging them in my laundry room. Or maybe selling them in my booth. What do you think? You like?

P.S. Through user error on my part Paula's blog Two Ellie was not updated on my blog roll. I am just sick about this and have corrected the problem. If you get a chance, head over to Two Ellie and give Paula some love.

Pink Union Jack

Do you read The Southern Eclectic? If not you have been missing out!! Sheridan French has the most fabulous clothing line, see here, not to mention great style. But it is her latest DIY that has me the most impressed.

Ta-da!! Can you stand it? Yes, she painted it herself!! Crazy good, right?

She got her inspiration from this picture she saw over at Amber's and then pinked it up.

If you get a chance pop over to Sheridan's blog and see what she's up to!
I'm off to find a chest to paint!

Booth Update - Afters

This is a picture of our booth the day we opened.
Boy have we come along way.
That is my grandmother's (Crazy Bama) chaise lounge.

A couple of weeks later we moved it to center stage. It was in great shape and sold quickly. Even better? It was bought by a great decorator in town, Cat Norris, for a friend she was working with and...

She was kind enough to send us some afters. Doesn't that chaise look fabulous all dressed up in blue?

She also bought these oil paintings...

Chippendale side table...

And this geranium print with marbleized frame.
Cat, thanks so much for sharing the pictures!! Glad to see everything found a good home!!

Now it's your turn. Buy something then send me photos of it in your home. Won't this be fun for everyone? What are you waiting for? We just stocked up with lots of goodies, so head over to The Eclectic and get you something good.
