All the Pretty Birds

Do you ever stumble across a blog and just get sucked in?

You scroll through post after post with the hours just ticking away.

That's what happened to me when I found All the Pretty Birds.

I couldn't stop gawking.
My style has been slipping lately.

I spent 2 hours at Anthropologie over Thanksgiving and couldn't find one thing to buy.

Even scarier? I did find something at Ann Taylor Loft yesterday. Either Ann Taylor Loft has gotten a lot hipper or I need an intervention.

Bittersweet Happy Thansgiving..

Thanks to Slim Jims, Cheetos and Dramamine we survived the car ride to Atlanta. We had a great visit with lots of family and friends.

Bill, Cricket and I got up early Thanksgiving morning to run in the Atlanta Half Marathon and 5K. We weren't quite up for the 1/2, so we ran the 5K.

But it wasn't just any 5K, we ran in honor of Bill's nephew, Miller Nuesse, who died unexpectedly on September 20. (click on his name to read a great article that ran in The Atlanta Journal and Constitution)

It was such a special day and I was thrilled Cricket decided to run with us. By "us" I mean me. Bill left us in the dust and Cricket would have left me, but I threatened to cut off her candy supply if she did.

Miller was a special boy to all of us and we will miss him. Yes, I know he was 21 years old, but to me he will always be that sweet 8 year old boy.

Hope your Thanksgiving was a happy one!!

Visiting Outfits from the Past..

Hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving! Today I am visiting Chedva at Belly Button. She has a great series called "Outfit With a Past".

Typically, my outfit with a past involves denim. I've been loving denim for a long, long time!
Be sure to check it out here.

Gobble, Gobble

I spent Sunday making a big batch of these...

I got the idea from here, and then modified it a little to make my life easier.

My little turkey friends got me in the mood for Thanksgiving. Yes, Thanksgiving. NOT Christmas.

I don't mean to sound like a downer but does it bug anyone else that the radio stations have been playing Christmas music almost full time for the past two weeks??!! It is driving me crazy. Isn't there some law of decency that says you should have to wait until after Thanksgiving before you break out the Christmas tunes? What ever happened to waiting your turn? If I was Thanksgiving I would be mad!!

The Right Bank

I'm visiting Ally From the right Bank today and blogging about a favorite trend. Here's a little hint.

Stop by and check it out. Here

P.S. I am off to Atlanta today. 7 hours in the car with 3 children who get car sick.
This Thanksgiving I am thankful for Dramamine.
(And my wonderful readers, of course!!)

I Heart Kandy

Dear Kandy,
(Kate + Andy = Kandy)
I figure that's what the paparazzi would call them if they lived in L.A. It's cute isn't it? And perfect for a design star couple.
And I know I posted this yesterday, but I love it so much I am just going to re- post it again this morning!

Your apartment rocks!! I call this the "Whatever" style of design. It doesn't look planned or uptight. It's like they said "We like it, let's buy it. We'll find a place for it". I bet Kate has never thought "Will this match?" No, I am sure she says "Whatever! I love it, I'll make it work." And she does.

Kate and Andy, if you ever decide to have a yard sale, call me first!!
And if you have too much artwork and not enough wall space, I will be glad to hang some for you. Just to keep it safe, you know.

6 Months of Lobsters

Want to see what happens when you send Butterball to school without his gobbers?

(Mrs. Harris & Butterball)
It's not pretty.
When he walked in the door several friends ran up and asked where his crabs were (crabs, lobsters, they all look the same when you're 2). That's all it took. He stripped off his pants and started crying. I was almost home when I got the call to bring his gobbers!!! In my defense, he had worn them for 2 days straight and slept in them, so I decided they needed a good washing. Plus, it was 45 degrees!!! Lesson learned: if he is not wearing his gobbers, I will at least send them to school in his bag.

Thank you Mrs. Harris & Mrs. Jones for being so sweet to Butterball and for not calling us crazy (at least not to our faces).

What's skinny, shiny and bright?

Do you have a type? Mine used to be big, round and colorful.

But lately I have been liking something a little different.

Shiny and skinny with long legs.

There's just something about these lamps that really appeal to me.

What about you? Do you have a type?

Buttons, Pom Poms, Felt Flowers?

I am trying to finish up some projects around my house before I start new ones. This is unusual for me. Wish me luck. Next up are the fabric covered panels for Cricket's built-in bed. I ordered the fabric 6 months ago, so it's about time to get going. I just need a little help.

I got a solid fabric, so I want to add a little interest. Maybe tufting.

But would you go with buttons in the same solid fabric or a contrasting button in white?

Then I thought it would be fun to add a felt pom pom.

Or maybe a flower...there are several styles to choose from.

Of course in the white only.

Or just a basic pom pom. Thoughts?

Gwyneth at the CMA's

Did you see Gwyneth on the CMA's last night? I am not a huge country fan, but was so curious to see Gwyneth Paltrow singing live. I was all set to watch. All 3 hours. Big talk from a girl who is usually asleep by 10. I couldn't hang. I had to tape it. For those of you who also missed her performance you have to check out this video I saw on Style Chronicle.

A few thoughts on the video:
1.Loved Gwyneth's pants. I got some similar riding pants with zippers from the Gap. I am going to wear them the next time I sing a country song.
2. Tim McGraw looks cute without his hat.
3. I need to tone my arm muscles.

Did you see the show? How did Gwyneth do?
Isn't the video great?

Southern Living

While getting my hair straightened I had some extra time to flip through magazines. Actually I had 3 1/2 hours. Hair straightening is a serious business. I caught up with all my celebrity friends and even got to look at some home decor magazines. My favorite was Southern Living. I know, I was surprised too!

I love the home of Ryan and Christy Ford.

It has such a great lived-in look with tons of style.

This has got to be my favorite room. You know I love that chair and the floor. Together they bring me all kinds of joy!! I am going to have to renew my long expired Southern Living subscription. Want to see more? Check it out here.

Mod Squad

I love a mix of traditional and modern. I think it gives a home personality and keeps it from looking too grandma (nothing personal Bama).

Isn't this dining room fabulous? Traditional dining room table, but the chairs keep it from being totally predictable.

Perfect leather Egg chair.

All these rooms have something in common.

A fairly traditional feel..

With a mid-century touch.

If you like this trend, which I do, it can be hard to find pieces in Wilmington.
Oh, I know, there is Ebay, but sometimes you want to see, touch and feel before you buy.

Do you want to add a touch of the unexpected to your home? What about the Plycraft lounge chair pictured above? If you like it, you are in luck.

This will be auctioned off next weekend at Big South Auctions here in Wilmington. Wouldn't it be great in a den? And even better? There is an ottoman.

So, I'm curious: Are you a fan of mixing in some modern touches or not so much?

It's a Sign

Remember this picture from yesterday? I was considering trying to duplicate this on my laundry room floor. Then while browsing the Internet I stumbled across...

This! Amazing and similar. Wait it gets better. I got a new Anthropologie catalog yesterday and when I opened the first page I was greeted with...

Even more amazingness. This had to be a sign from the design gods that this was the right pattern for me. I got all excited, tore the page out and started working on a stencil. (It didn't go all that well.) Then later, while checking comments, I saw that anonymous was talking about page 30 in the Anthro catalog. What? There was more?

Yep. There it is. Is it tape? Paper? I don't know, but I know it is love. Do you think this is the new chevron? I have got to figure this out and get painting. (Ann, Hooper said you might have some tips for me. I need some!!)
