Do You Remember?

It is amazing what you come across when searching the web for cute shoes....

All kinds of forgotten fun from my childhood. Do you remember Land of the Lost? The originall. Not the lame movie remake that tarnished the image of a classic T.V. show. And what were those bad guys called? Sleestacks? They looked like aliens. This show had a big impact on me as I looked to it for fashion guidance. That may have been a mistake. I had corduroy Levi's in all the colors and of course wore them with my flannel shirts and Wallabees. And then wondered why everyone called me son.

Oh, Tickle! I was so excited to pick out my very first deodorant to take to camp....Tickle! I liked the pink and blue. Is this still around?

OMG! Sigmund the Sea Monster!!

And H.R. Puff-N-Stuff.

I know the flute's name was Freddy, but what was the boy's name? They are probably going to kick me out of the Puff-N-Stuff fan club for forgetting his name!! Yes, I was a member. Can I just say in hindsight that was a weird
show!!! I can still sing the theme song, although when I sang it for my kids they begged me to stop. No one appreciates a good show tune these days!

Did you collect Madame Alexander dolls? My sister and I did and had these exact dolls. Wonder where they are? I am sure we lost the wooden shoes, the best part of the outfit, if you ask me!
Please tell me someone remembers astronaut food!!! We used to eat these for snack. They weren't all that good, but we thought we were so cool eating space food!!
I seem to have watched a lot of T.V. in my youth. And they say too much T.V. isn't good for you! Ha! Look how well I've turned out. And I wasn't even watching good T.V.

See anything from your childhood? I've had so much fun; I may do this again next Friday!!! What do you think?

PS I had several e-mails asking about Barbour Jackets, there are some awesome vintage jackets on Ebay right right now for way less than the $395 retail price!!! And I can tell you the coats only get better with age!!!

It's Back

I was browsing the J Crew website, and came across this jacket...

J Crew Barbour Classic Bedale Jacket

A Barbour Jacket? That rang a bell. I had a Barbour jacket years ago...now where was it? Two closets later I found it...

Now this just goes to show you should buy what you love! I bought this jacket 24 years ago when I was in Oxford, England for a year of school. This was all the rage among the hip, young locals, so of course, I had to have one. I have loved and worn it ever since. Except for the past two years when it got stuffed in the deep, dark corner of my entrance hall closet. It was like a family reunion when I found it. Oh, if this jacket could talk! It looks good for being 24 years old doesn't it?

Do you have an old timer in your closet?

Lucky

I am a lucky girl. I get to blog about all my problems. What fabric should I get? Which jacket should I buy? What sandals are the cutest? I am lucky to have the problems I have.

I have the cutest family you could imagine and we are all healthy and happy. And I know I am lucky. Not everyone has the luxury of worrying about clothing and interior design.

Debra from 5th and State recently had a contest, a makeover of your home's exterior. Drawings of the house as well as landscaping. An awesome giveaway. I didn't win. Someone much more deserving than me won. Gay from Michigan. Gay is thrilled that she won, but there is something else she would love even more.

A bone marrow match for her husband. I can't do Debra's post justice, so you can check it out here. Over the past year I have been touched and amazed by the generosity of the blogging community. On the surface we can seem like a pretty shallow group, obsessed with ourselves and our silly hobbies. But dig a little deeper and we are a pretty good bunch of people who look out for each other. Need something? Ask. We will usually step up to help. This is one of those times. If you are not already signed up on the Bone Marrow Registry you can sign up here. Super quick and easy!!! I joined years ago while working for the Red Cross, but having moved many times and gotten married with a crazy long last name, I am having them trace my records to make sure I am still on file. If not, I'll sign up again.

Let's spread a little hope and joy!
Thanks! Sissy

My Oscar Night

It would have been a big night IF I had gone to the Oscars. I know what I would have worn. I have a skirt I have been saving for a special occasion ever since this post.

I would have switched the denim shirt for a white tee. It was the Oscars after all. Worn with fabulous diamond earrings and strappy sandals. It would have been perfect. For me. I didn't want to steal too much of the attention. You know how prickly big stars can be.
Now for my date....

Should I go for the obvious choice?

Someone to make me laugh?

Or the unexpected bad boy?
I think Sean Penn is cute in an "I can pump your gas" or "Beat up the paparazzi" kind of way.

Thoughts and pics from the evening....

Mariska Hargitay looked fabulous!! I have got to give her a shout out because she is no spring chicken! I know because she is my age.

Charlize Theron. What are you looking at? I know! It is a beautiful dress, but the pink swirls are in awkward spots...don't you think? A little Madonna-ish.

I love Sarah Jessica Parker

And Cameron Diaz. But when not partying with all my famous friends, I was able to watch a little of the show on T.V. HDTV and dang!!! I could see every stinking wrinkle on these two. Obviously HDTV was invented by a man. No woman wants to see all that detail. Especially of their faces. I watch the Oscars for the fantasy factor. Not reality.

I do not get this fabric. Loved the style of the dress. But the fabric looks like she borrowed it from the hostess at her favorite Chinese restaurant.

Help me here. This is Demi Moore. Demi Moore who? I wasn't convinced it was her until I heard her speak. Don't get me wrong, she looks great. Just not like Demi Moore. Do you think she had more plastic surgery?

I could go on and on, but I am exhausted. And I need a Diet Coke. I may add more photos later.

What did you think? Who was your favorite? Which date would you pick?

$200 Sock

Have you ever wondered what the world's most expensive sock looks like? Well wonder no more...

Ta Da! It is really small and not much to look at. Here it is shortly after Billy (remember him from this post?) fished it out of my washing machine drainage hose. Yep, that little wayward sock cost me $200.

I wish I could have spent the money on....

Or my favorite Blue Sky Wedge.
One problem. The heels are almost 5 inches high. I sometimes fall off my clogs. Their heel is about 2 inches high. Maybe if I get a pole (like a tight rope walker) to help with my balance I could attempt to wear these. Practical? No. But do I always have to be practical just because I'm the mom?

But wait, what if I combined the two?

Socks and wedges....

Oh, don't worry. I am not going to actually wear this. I don't think. What about you? Socks and sandals? You have got to have some attitude to pull it off. And evidently, legs the size of toothpicks!

Evolution of a Room

I've been collecting pictures for my living room inspiration for a while. Recently I noticed two of the rooms looked alike. Actually it was the same room.

This is the first picture I saved. I think it is from Domino. Does anyone remember it from Domino?

Next was this room. It's getting better. Notice the changes? More artwork, antlers, rugs. Its looking even better. Then what should I see from the latest Vogue but this...

Wow!!! Now we are really talking. It is from the home of Suzanne and Christopher Sharp, owners of the Rug Company. I love seeing how this room evolved over time. At least I hope it evolved. I hope it wasn't just styled up for the latest photo shoot. Maybe it's a little of both. What do you think?

This picture is from another room in their house, but notice it is the green chairs and red lamp from the first photo.

Want to see more of their fabulous home? Go here.
Are you a color person? You are in for a treat.
If not put on your sunglasses and take a look, I think you'll like it!

Sticker Shock

We had a great weekend. Hope you did too. It started off with Chili & Chairs at the kids' school. Sharon Swartzlander, Forest Hills art teacher, outdid herself. Each grade paints a stool that is auctioned off while a room full of excited kids eat chili and play Bingo. Relaxing? No. Loads of fun? You bet. Parents were asked to bring in desserts to sell as part of the fund raiser. I made brownies and bought cookies. I felt bad for the store bought cookies and decided at the last minute to dress them up.

I had small plastic gift bags from Target, just big enough for two cookies. Then decided a sticker would be the perfect touch. I did it all by myself and only had to call Bill at work and ask him one question. "How do you print stickers on the computer?" Six minutes later I had my stickers. It was so surprisingly easy.

I thought the stickers gave the cookies some personality. I was excited and proud. Until I decided to check out Etsy.

There are some sticker fools over there. Like Beautiful Creations.

And Pink Clover Design. They make my stickers look like losers!!!

Bill said he would show me how to make fancy stickers yesterday, but he decided to play golf instead. Golf over sticker making? Raise your hand if you are surprised.
