Try and guess what I bought on my trip to Chicago?
Oh, good guess! I have been looking for a leopard faux fur jacket for years. I really wanted a vintage coat but that is like finding a leprechaun riding a unicorn..probably not going to happen. So when I walked into Topshop and saw this...
I knew I had to have it!! It was the only one in my size and I only had to wait in line 15 minutes to try it on so I knew it was meant to be.
I am so excited and can't wait to wear it.
Don't you think it will go with everything?
Little black dress, jeans and a t...the options are endless.
I know it is not for everyone...but it is perfect for me.
Have you read Me Before You? If not stop whatever you are doing and go get a copy. Get a real book, not a Nook book. This is one you will want to share. Several friends had recommended it but I just couldn't get excited about it. For one thing the cover didn't appeal to me. I know, "you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover" but come on...
This cover looks like a fluffy, Victorian love story.
I'm not going to say too much about it except, Will Traynor you broke my heart but I still love you. I am not a big crier but I had a little sob fest after I finished this book. I was dying to talk to someone about it and literally had to chase Bill around the house yelling out the plot but he just wasn't interested...go figure. So please, go read and then let's talk.
Thanks to y'all's suggestions we saw a Second City Comedy Show and took an Architecture Boat Tour. And of course did a lot of eating and shopping.
And speaking of shopping I found a Frye Store - it smelled like leather heaven (Or a barnyard depending on your love of animal hides).
Here I am deep in thought trying to decide between two pairs.
After a long struggle a decision was made and I will show you what I got when the boots arrive. They shipped them for me so I didn't have to drag them home on the plane and also didn't have to pay tax: win-win.
There has rarely been a silver necklace or bracelet I haven't felt a little love for.
And my motto has always been "Why wear one when you can wear three or four?"
The only problem is keeping all that silver clean. I have a strand of large vintage silver beads that are so heavy they give me a neck ache when I wear them. My feelings of joy over-ride the discomfort but cleaning those beads is an even bigger pain.
But now thanks to the Internet I have found the answer to my tarnished silver...a simple cleaning trick with water, salt, baking soda and vinegar. You have got to try it. It works like a charm.
Had to share this video that Mary Duke posted yesterday....
So clever...
And of course like a good monkey I had to try it myself.
It really works except those sleeves on her shirt must be freakishly long, while she was wrapping and fluffing I had two small sleeves and lots of cuff...
So I decided to get creative and make my own design. I took the ends and put a rubber band around them to make a bow/flower.
It almost looks like a real skirt, don't you think?
Would I wear it in public? Probably not but trying all the different styles did bring me a good 10-20 minutes of entertainment.
Bill? Not so impressed and if you see him in a blue and white striped shirt that is a little wrinkled..well, now you know why.
Want to try it? Hit up your husband's or boyfriend's closet or get your own over-sized shirt here or here.
While I was hopping around the web I saw an update on one of my favorite families...The Novogratz...all those kids and tons of style, you gotta love them.
And now there are even more reasons...
Just look at this new line of bedding and home furnishings...
And you are not going to believe where it is sold!! Go on, guess...
And thank you for all the e-mails with suggestions for places to go & things to do in Chicago!! I've added the Architecture Boat tour and hopefully a trip to Second City for a comedy show...and still plenty of time for shopping.
Ever since the death of my favorite Jewish grandmother (Joan Rivers) I have been a little down in the dumps. Thankfully William and Kate really stepped up to bring some joy into my life...the royals are nice like that.
Yes, baby #2 is on the way.
What does this mean for you and me? Baby bump watch and months of speculation on the sex of the new royal. Plus cute maternity clothes. Let the fun begin.
Also planning a girls trip to Chicago.
Any suggestions of places to go, people to see, food to eat?
Anyone watching? I saw the first episode on a whim and now I can't get the rest of the episodes without paying for Starz...is it worth it? (I am not a huge fan of watching on my computer)
OK, it's is my only swim shirt but I love it!! Super soft and comfy, not too clingy or tight. Now's the time to get one when they are on sale. Other cute ones here and here.
The weather here in Wilmington has been amazing lately. Almost fall like. Even though I know some hot days are still ahead the cool temps remind me that winter is on the way. Which is scary!! Really scary. I need to prepare...pull out all the layers. Just because you're cold doesn't mean you can't look cute.
I had been waiting for this dressto go on sale and then when it did they no longer had my size. Did I give up? No, what do you think I am? An amateur? I kept checking back and then bam!! Yesterday they had my size available. I immediately put it in my cart and started to dream of all the places we would go together...
But as I clicked "place order" a horrible message appeared that said my size was no longer available. What!!?? In the 30 seconds it took me to pay - with Paypal - my dress had been sold!!! Now I don't want to say I am mad...I am just...well, OK I am mad. If my dress is in my cart I should have at least 1 minute to complete my dang order!! So, if you were the one who bought my dress there is still a chance for you to make it right. When it arrives, which I think will be around Friday, go ahead and try it on, see what you think. If you like it and can live with the guilt, by all means keep it. But if you want to do the right thing e-mail me: siskotte@ec.rr.com. I will buy it from you no questions asked. I may even include a little reward for your good behavior.
Or if you bought this dress at the beginning of the summer and the shiny has worn off, e-mail me, I will take it off your hands.
That's it..it's over. Today is the last day of summer. No more french fries and lemonade for dinner. No more goofing off and telling the kids they can eat whatever they can find for lunch...no more naps in your bathing suit after a long day at the beach. No more sand in the bed or life jackets on the back steps.
It was a good summer....but now it's time to organize people! I have to start planning dinners and doing laundry on a regular basis. Laying out uniforms and packing lunches the night before. Ugh..School Mom is back...I like Summer Mom much better!
