Crazy Hair

I know we discussed whether or not I should cut Butterball's hair and the vast majority said no. I agreed.

Until he got his 3rd DUI and then I said enough!

Last weekend off we went. Look how happy he is in his little airplane.

It didn't last.

He didn't like the cape.
Or having his hair sprayed with water...

And he especially disliked the scissors.

See? That wasn't so bad.

You can hardly tell his hair was cut. He still has lots of curl, just less crazy.

It's Over

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I said I was really busy but couldn't say why? I posted about it here. Well the truth is I was training for the triathlon but didn't want to talk about it in case I wimped out and didn't finish. Getting up at 6 am on summer mornings to train really wasn't that fun.

After 3 months of running, biking and swimming until I wanted to scream, the big day finally came. This past Saturday I felt every one of my 45 years. The good news, I finished. The bad news, everyone and their grandmother seemed to pass me. And there may have been some bad language involved during the run. I also want to apologize to anyone who may have seen me during the second half of the run: I had to roll up my tank top and let my white flabby stomach get some air. No one should have to see that, but desperate times call for desperate measures. At least I had the sense of mind to roll it back down before the finish line.

I wasn't trying to break any records which was a good thing since my time was not great. I knew I was in trouble when I lined up on the beach with the other swimmers in my age group and realized I was the only one not in an official Speedo swimsuit. I stood out in my black tankini and polka dot bottoms. Shouldn't I get points for individuality? Anyone can be firm, fit and tan in a blue Speedo; so predictable. I am glad I completed the race, no walking, no crying, some cussing, but I don't care to repeat this experience...ever.

Knock, Knock, It's NOT Nate

Have you seen The Nate Berkus Show? Hell, you've probably been to a show. Seems like every blogger in America has been invited to a taping except me. Nate, no hard feelings, but you need to call me so we can talk about it.

Well, not only have I not been to a show, I haven't even been able to watch an episode. Seems like Wilmington is the only city in the world that chose not to pick up Nate's show. Why? After numerous phone calls to the local T.V. station (a big thank you to Eric for taking the time to talk with me on several occasions) it seems like they didn't have room on the schedule. Really? You couldn't make room for my Nate? I graciously offered to give up The Doctor's time slot or Dr. Phil. Who watches The Doctor's? Really, I want to know. If you watch this show please e-mail and tell me why. Give me one good reason they should be on the air talking about body odor when I could be watching Nate.

So go ahead and torture and me. Have you been to the show? Have you seen an episode? Was it wonderful? Did Nate mention me?

You Asked...

I get a lot of questions from readers and thought it was about time to answer a few.

I found the artichoke bowl/vase at Home Goods.

I did find the perfect striped t at J Crew. I have already worn it. A lot. Just call me Jenna.

I got my necklace like Tory's at:
Cape Fear Jewelry & Antiques
4107-E1 Oleander Drive
Wilmington, NC
910-762-1310
Ask for Pait. Tell him Sissy sent you.

Me and my necklace and oh yeah, my family.

And God bless the reader who asked about my sofa fabric. I know it's a little hard to see the pattern under all the dirt, food and filth. I ordered it from Restoration Hardware about 4 years ago. I checked and they don't carry it any more. I have to say it hasn't held up that well. Of course we are not gentle with our fabrics, so it may be user error.

Have I forgotten anything? If I haven't answered your question give me a shout!

Inner-tubes

I recently came across this picture on Full House. I remember when this home was first published, I loved this shower curtain from Anthropologie. I wish they still carried it. I would love to use something similar for curtains in my living room.

Doesn't the pattern remind you of inner-tubes? I went tubing with my kids and nieces and nephew on Saturday. Have you ever been tubing? Wonder why you rarely see adults tubing? Older bodies are not meant to be dragged behind a boat at full speed. Our muscles can't handle it. Don't feel bad if I pass you in my car and don't wave. It's nothing personal; I just I can't raise my left arm. Or move the left side of my body. The only tubes I want to see for a while are the kinds on fabric.

P.S. I am not the only one who liked this shower curtain, Kelly Green also posted this same picture today...check it out.

Jenna Lyons has a Gobber

Don't know what a gobber is? The quick answer is anything you wear over and over again. Need more info? Check out this post and this post. Update for my regular readers: Butterball is still wearing his gobbers to school everyday, we are getting ready to start week 14.

Jenna Lyons' gobber is her J Crew (of course) striped t.

She even wore it on Oprah.

I am all about working an outfit you love.

I think her very favorite look is the striped t with the sequin pants.

I know some of these pictures may be from the same day, but I have seen her in this outfit numerous times.

Hey, if it looks good why not wear it again? And again. And again.

What about you? Do you find a look you love and stick with it, or do you like a different outfit for every occasion?

I'm Visiting a Friend

Hey! I am over at The Zhush visiting my friend Sue. Come see me.

Sue and I have a lot in common: 3 children, a love of design, the same J Crew Army jacket and she gets my sense of humor. What more could you want in a friend? She's a younger, cooler more stylish version of me. Picture the city mouse and the country mouse. I would be the one in overalls. Check out her blog here.

Sorry and Please

I have been a bad blogger lately. I have been very busy. I can't tell you why. It is not that exciting or interesting, but it is taking up a whole lot of my time and energy. I will tell you about it in two weeks. In the meantime, I may be a little behind on my blogging, returning e-mails, laundry and cooking. I will make it up to you if I survive the next 14 days. What can you do to help? Thanks for asking. There is something.

My fellow blogger, Julie, from Shelter, has entered the CB2 The Selby is in Your Place Contest and I want you to vote for her. And her office.

Have you seen Julie's office? It is fabulous!!!

To vote go here.
Thank you!!!

And if you want to check out the other rooms you can see them here. But I have looked at a lot of the other entries and, truthfully, they just made me sad.

Feathers Found

Even more excitement from my closet cleaning adventure over the weekend...I found a missing lamp shade. And not just any lamp shade, but my very favorite of all time feather lamp shade.

Don't you love him? He has a mate somewhere in my house or attic. God only knows where, but I am determined to reunite them. And then find lamps. I have had these shades for 8 years, through 3 moves. I am surprised there are any feathers left on them. They are meant for a chandelier or sconce, but I am convinced that I will one day find two freakishly skinny brass lamps on which to hang my furry friends. Wish me luck!
P.S. Picture these shades against a bright blue wall....of course I would have to paint my walls, but since I have been looking for the perfect lamps for 8 years there is probably no rush to pick out a paint color.

Labor Day....

A day of rest? Not in my house.
I used my "day off" to clean, organize and rid myself of clutter.
I started with the guest room closet. The dumping ground for all things homeless.

This is only a sample of how bad it was. I had already removed numerous board games and books before I took this picture. Am I the only one with a dislike of board games? Monopoly Jr.? Torture. I like a quick game of say Tic Tac Toe or Rock Paper Scissors. In fact we played one of my favorite games on the ride home from dinner last night. The Quiet Game. I lost. But being a gracious loser I encouraged the kids to keep playing. And they did. The whole drive home. The Quiet Game, it's a good thing.

I went through all the boxes and if a piece was missing..bye-bye! Bye-bye Hi Ho Cheerio with all your stinking cherries. Bye-bye Chutes and Ladders. If I had known it was going to bring me so much joy, I would have thrown them away years ago.

After
So my weekend went like this:
Pool, boat, pool, beach. Throw in a few cheese sticks and a clean closet and it was a happy holiday.
Hope yours was too!

Gobbers Update

For all those that asked, yes, Butterball wore his gobbers to school the first day and the second day and the third day. When you find a look that works why fool with it.

This is when he saw me at the end of the morning and came a running. How long will he do that? I think time might be running out: I can't picture this same reaction in middle school.

At this point I was all smiles because I was sure he was going to take a nap which meant mama would get a nap. But no such luck. Where does he get his energy?

Butterball is not the only one who started back to school. Cricket and Clay went back last week. Cricket is going through a phase where she won't show her teeth when she smiles. I don't know why and god forbid I suggest it. Can you believe they are twins? So different, one so serious, the other so goofy. Can you tell which one is the goofy one?

One last question....is it time to cut Butterball's hair? He is starting to look like a cross between Kramer and Doc from Back to the Future. If he starts singing Bridge Over Troubled Waters, I am definitely cutting it.

Did You See Emily Henderson?

I have been having computer problems again. I swear if it doesn't get straightened out soon, my head is going to pop off my body!! I have been trying to get this post out for two days!! I just wanted to know if you watched Emily Henderson's new show on HGTV. You know, the girl who won Design Star.

I just couldn't bear to watch Design Star. I don't know why. Maybe because everything just looked sloppy and cheap. I can do sloppy and cheap. I need more pizazz in my T.V. viewing. But I decided to give Secrets From a Stylist a chance and I loved it.

She redid a friend's home, changing and tweaking as she went.

I really enjoyed watching the process as well as the outcome. A Perfect Gray also did a post on the show and even included paint colors if you are interested.

Did you watch? What did you think?
Also, anybody with excellent (or any) computer skills, please call. My support staff is letting me down. Yes, Bill. I am talking to you!!! I do not want to hear "I don't know what the problem is" one more time!! Love, Sissy
