Labor Day....

A day of rest? Not in my house.
I used my "day off" to clean, organize and rid myself of clutter.
I started with the guest room closet. The dumping ground for all things homeless.

This is only a sample of how bad it was. I had already removed numerous board games and books before I took this picture. Am I the only one with a dislike of board games? Monopoly Jr.? Torture. I like a quick game of say Tic Tac Toe or Rock Paper Scissors. In fact we played one of my favorite games on the ride home from dinner last night. The Quiet Game. I lost. But being a gracious loser I encouraged the kids to keep playing. And they did. The whole drive home. The Quiet Game, it's a good thing.

I went through all the boxes and if a piece was missing..bye-bye! Bye-bye Hi Ho Cheerio with all your stinking cherries. Bye-bye Chutes and Ladders. If I had known it was going to bring me so much joy, I would have thrown them away years ago.

After
So my weekend went like this:
Pool, boat, pool, beach. Throw in a few cheese sticks and a clean closet and it was a happy holiday.
Hope yours was too!

  1. Organization always makes me happy too! I'm more productive, and more relaxed in a organized home! Good job!

  5. We played the Quiet Game home from dinner last night as well! Too funny! The only thing I like more than the quiet game...is throwing junk out, and you just reminded me I have an entire basement filled with games and toys that are missing half the pieces...and now that the kids are in school...can't wait! Thanks! :)

  6. You crack me up. Are there family's who don't loose half of the pieces to board games? Not ours. I need to do the same thing with lots of closets. Perhaps if I snap a before pic and put it on my blog it will get me to finish it.

  9. Funny post. Can so relate to the "quick game" school of thought. Almost made me laugh out loud. However, I do like a game of backgammon and cards from time to time.

You did a great job on the closet.

    Cheers.

  10. Sounds like a heavenly way to spend Labor Day. I was out of town and actually craving being at home to clean stuff out - I always crave organizing when I'm not at home to do it. Excellent job on the closet - I think I'm off to hit the whole guest room which has turned into a huge walk-in-storage room!

  19. Ah, purging. Such a good feeling.

You should introduce your kids to one of my kids favorite games (and my VERY favorite game.) It is called Naptime, and they get in my bed, cover up, and lay there quietly staring up at the ceiling for up to an hour. I have no idea how I got so lucky but I hope they play until they go to college...
