Have you seen The Nate Berkus Show? Hell, you've probably been to a show. Seems like every blogger in America has been invited to a taping except me. Nate, no hard feelings, but you need to call me so we can talk about it.
Well, not only have I not been to a show, I haven't even been able to watch an episode. Seems like Wilmington is the only city in the world that chose not to pick up Nate's show. Why? After numerous phone calls to the local T.V. station (a big thank you to Eric for taking the time to talk with me on several occasions) it seems like they didn't have room on the schedule. Really? You couldn't make room for my Nate? I graciously offered to give up The Doctor's time slot or Dr. Phil. Who watches The Doctor's? Really, I want to know. If you watch this show please e-mail and tell me why. Give me one good reason they should be on the air talking about body odor when I could be watching Nate.
Come to Charlotte to watch it and I'll provide the diet coke and popcorn-or chips and salsa!
ReplyDeleteeveryday on all the design blogs I follow all I hear about is the NATE SHOW!!! Yet another reason to continue my hatred for Wilmington Time Warner Cable. My blood pressure rises just thinking about them. Let's start a petition!!!
ReplyDeleteI caught the first few episodes while in New England for work. I don't think it's really fair to judge a show based on the first few tapings...they were definitely a little awkward and sometimes Nate's timing is off.
ReplyDeleteBut that's pretty typical for the first season, I think. I could be a very good show...but they need material for segments. Right now, they segments seems staged and forced.
i love nate. love him. haven't been invited though but also didn't know lots of bloggers were. now im just pissed (prob shouldnt be though since my blog isn't really just design, huh)
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong, but it seems that the show invited NYC-area bloggers (or those who could get to NYC fairly easily).
ReplyDeleteI've been reading everyone's blogs about being at the show as well. It sounds like they didn't even acknowledge the audience of design bloggers - kind of strange. I actually forgot the show had started until I saw all the blogs then promptly checked my local listings. He airs on our Fox station. Surely, Wilmington's Fox station can squeeze him in, right?!! I just DVR'ed it, so I'll let you know my thoughts later.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a few episodes, truthfully I forgot all about it till Friday, I'm so mad at myself! It's all set up to record now though. I think he is doing a good job so far, my favorite part is at the end where he takes a few photos from the audience about their design issues and helps them figure out what to do.
ReplyDeleteI've watched it a few times and I have to say I think the show sucks. Still love him, but the show is so variety show-ish and unless your completely design challenged, it doesn't exactly teach you anything new. I don't think your missing anything.
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you!! No Nate for me in Memphis TN either.
ReplyDeleteDon't cry, I wasn't invited either! My mom is obsessed with The Doctors show. Everyday she starts sentences with "today on the doctors they found out that breathing causes cancer!" I haven't seen an episode of Nate either, we don't have cable!
ReplyDeleteEl Paso TX doesn't get Nate either even though Nate's website says we do. We get Ellen during the Nate timeslot... Judging by some blogs' reaction to Nate day taping we may not be missing anything though... I do love Nate though even if he totally missed an opportunity with an audience full of bloggers...
ReplyDeleteI have only seen one show. It was "ok". I still love nate though!
ReplyDeleteI saw a couple of episodes last week before I left Canada for Ireland. Looks like I won't be tuning in over here! I love Nate -some parts of the show were a bit lame - I think it would be better if it were a weekly jam-packed show instead of a daily where they need to find content to fill it. But he is adorable so he makes up for any shortcomings :)
ReplyDeleteI was at the blogger taping! He is just as handsome in real life but he definitely hasn't found his groove yet. He just needs a little time and his show will be great!
ReplyDeleteWe recently relocated to Boise, ID area (thanks to my hubby's work in USAF) and they also prefer to show the horrid The Drs show over Nate. We can watch it on the NBC digital channel which is only accessible via cable and not Direct Tv or Dish Network, which EVERYONE has here since our cable companies are horrible. I had a long discussion via twitter with the NBC channel letting them know their decision to play the DRs is a horrible one. No one likes that craptastic show.
ReplyDeleteYou aren't missing much! The show is awful. Nate is still great, but the producers or writers or whoever is leading that mess is not doing anything for him. I predict it won't last.
ReplyDeleteSadly, as charming and adorable and talented as Nate is, the show is horrible. I stopped recording it. And as somebody mentioned above, the bloggers who were invited were not even acknowledged...a missed opportunity for the show, for sure! When Martha Stewart has shows about bloggers, it is so well done.
ReplyDeletesissy, the only thing you are missing is seeing mr. dreamy himself..........the show is horrible. how can i say this nicely....i think it is for his qvc or hsn , whatever shopping network he is affiliated with, audience. betty crocker would be more "with it", very dumbed down. we could do the little crafty bits ourselves like asking the audience to bring something they don't want anymore and trade. (think snowbabies) YIKES! and to think i cancelled going last minute and spending a ton of money to get there.
ReplyDeleteps; you had to be on moggitt twitter page to find out about 10 days ago. i wasn't, but begged someone to get me tickets and she did. only wanted to go because of the topic and the bloggers were ignored!
I heard there's a segment called "Nate's Crate"???? That's reason enough for me NOT to watch...I think Nate jumped the shark when he started selling on HSN...the show/and the HSN carp is for people who want sloppy seconds Nate...his design (for those who can afford him, is impeccaple!).
ReplyDeletePS...I blame Oprah for most of this...she seems to ruin most of her annointed ones...
The show's a train wreck and therefore so UN-NATE. Shed no tears unless the whole format has a retooling. It's truly dreadful.
ReplyDeleteThe show is horrible .... I'm actually taking it off my TiVo. Imagine any other cheesy daytime show .... and then imagine Nate wooden, cheesy, and way too commercial.

ReplyDeletethis post is just one of the reasons why I love you...
ReplyDeleteI just found out that they have a time slot here, but I haven't seen it yet...not much of a tv watcher in the middle of the day...but I am going to make time! However, I would REALLY like to be invited on the show...sigh! maybe we could petition! --Gretchen O.
ReplyDeleteNo show for me, either. It is Dora or nothing here. If I get a chance to watch TV it is Hoarders for me. I know--I am a little off.
ReplyDeleteI need to get a DVR and get in this century. How could they not invite you? Shame on you, Nate.
Super funny! I actually caught a bit of it at work today! BTW - Nate Berkus will be on the Home Shopping Network on Oct 11. And the HUGE premiere (in my book at least) of Jonathan Adler is the next day - it is a Home Design Event. Colin Cowie will be there as well. I'm pimping where I work and all the good designers we have for home!! And i'm not spamming I have been reading your blog for months!
ReplyDeleteHaving been to a taping, though not "the" taping, and having watched, or rather tried to watch two dvr episodes, I think you need to call up your friend Eric and maybe offer him a big ole "thank you!"...I'm just sayin'. The show is design diluted to the nth degree and pandering to far too many factions.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the show, either! It is one in my market (Birmingham) but I keep forgetting to DVR it.
ReplyDeleteSissy- this is gonna kill you. The reason you have Nate is because of Oprah and the reason you have The Doctors is because of... Oprah. The Queen set Dr. Phil loose on the American public, gave him his own show, he became successful enough to start a production company that spawned other shows. Dr. Phil and his son are the Executive Producers of, yep, The Doctors. Oprah is so big she is canceling her own TV protoges out! The hulabaloo on the blogs says you ain't missing much without a daily dose of Nate.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for a while and why I never noticed until NOW that you live in Wilmington is beyond me. I live in Bladen County {can't believe I'm admitting this} and love Wilmington! I am disappointed too about Nate's show not being aired here! Although I too have heard we aren't missing anything....
ReplyDeleteWe don't have the show either. weep.
ReplyDeletethat's horrid! I'm right there with you... I don't own a TV, so I can't watch. maybe someday :)
ReplyDeletexx fallon
Don't worry-you're not alone...I wasn't invited. Didn't need to it's on every blog I've read for the last two weeks!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I wasn't invited either my friend! ;)
ReplyDeleteI haven't even had a chance to catch the show!!
Guess I'm too busy with my insane life.
Best,
Julie
I'm in Houston....can't find it either. And I really want to give it a shot; before I listen to everyone NOT to watch it!
ReplyDeleteI love Nate. Love him. And the guy is crazy talented! But the show is just awful. Nate just can't carry the show alone and he doesn't stick to talking about design. They have all these other things going on that just don't work. Someone should really get a hold of the format and re-work it. There won't be a second season if they don't.
