Blue Chairs - Blue Walls?

Maybe instead of blue chairs, I will paint my living room blue.

Like this. Now this room has personality.

Sometimes I think my decorating gets too safe.

Decorating should be fun and show your personality.

I am not really a neutral type of person, so why should my living room be neutral?

I need to take more chances? What is the worst thing that can happen?

I could spend all my money getting everything recovered, walls painted, pillows made and then end up hating it. And I would be stuck with it for years...other than that what is there to worry about?

What do you think? Play it safe or go bold?

  1. "Go bold or go home!" Look around you, EVERYONE plays it safe. However, I wouldn't dump all my money into something that couldn't easily be corrected, like very expensive upholstery fabric. So i guess what I'm trying to say is play it safe money wise, but yeah, TAKE CHANCES!

  2. Hmmm... maybe go bold? Esp if it's just paint. It's the cheapest thing to change so you can paint over it when you get tired of the color!

  3. Oh I love blue and would give anything for that upholstered wall in blue and green. I could look at that photo all day!

  4. I love blue in decorating a home. My first tiny little house was done in blue and white and I loved it then and it would still look fresh today, 19 years later.

  5. Sissy, you know yourself! DO not spend all your $$ changing everything. Be bold with your blue paint- it will look fab in your living room because you get so much light in there. It will also bring you so much joy because that is such a main room in your house, and you love blue. Do it!! Don't change out everything yet, though. Paint is an easy fix. And you're so right, you're so not neutral!!

  8. Paint away. Be bold. Paint is easy to change if you don't like it. Sure, it is a pain in the neck moving all the furniture all around, but still on the easy and affordable scale.

  9. I love that second photo with the textured blue on the walls. As much as I love blue, I've never had the eye for picking out the right shade of blue for our walls. It always comes out dingy gray-looking or so bright that it could burn the eyeballs right out of your head! But if you get the right shade, I think it's a beautiful look!

  14. I am with you on the walls. I am painting mine Benjamin Moore's Majestic Blue. I really loved the way the blue and red looked in Mamma Mia. I didn't particularly care for the movie, but I have watched it about 5x just to see the interiors and scenery. Gorgeous!

  15. Oh, have you seen the blues that American Clay has? If you like textured, that is really the most environmentally friendly version that I have found - my son has asthma so I have to be VERY careful, but this plaster puts positive ions in the air or something like that.

  16. Be bold...but baby steps. Paint would be the natural first step, sample can, sample swatch, sample wall, etc. Good Luck! And, is it just me, or is that child disproportionaly small in that room?

  18. Well for me, it's better to stay away from colour on walls, as I end up repainting 2, 3, 5, times!! I love the first 3 rooms - fantastic colour.

  19. I love the blue walls idea! The Timorous Beasties wallpaper in your 3rd picture has been a favorite of mine for a while - it looks like a modern twist on damask. I think it could really look great in a living room! My sister painted her dining room dark blue last year and it looks amazing and adds a lot of drama to the room!

  20. Go BIG, go BOLD or go home! Don't have any regrets ~ especially with paint. Pillows are not that expensive...or they really could be but don't have to be. :-) I cannot survive without color ~ makes me happy!

  21. Sissy, as an avid reader of your blog, I bet you'd love blue walls... I've seen so many gorgeous blue rooms that I KNOW you'd rock it (and that you'd probably never get sick of it!) Go Sissy!

  22. Your home should represent your personality and the way you want to live life. I wouldn't make bold for the sake of bold, but rather because that's your personality and how you want to feel when you walk in a room. Pushing the boudaries is great, as long as you like the outcome! It sounds like you should go for it!

  23. I love Bold and i love all these shades of blue. When i was married the hardest part of decorating was incorporating color choices into our home. My man's favorite color is..you guessed it Blue...so i spent hours searching for that perfect shade for his office space. Thanks for these amazing photo's.

  24. We were always taught in design school to buy the expensive items in mid-tone neutrals, i.e., the upholstery, the floors, etc. And that's because PAINT'S CHEAP! If you want to be bold with the paint, be bold!
