To Nook or Not

I gave Bill a Nook for his birthday and he loves it so much he gave me one for Christmas. So nice. It took me over a week to even take it out of it's box. I just couldn't decide if I wanted to keep it. I am such a book person. I love the way they smell, the way they feel, the way you can stack them up and they look so pretty. I love the way you can tell a lot about a person from the books they have around the house. I also loaning and borrowing books from friends. Hey, got a great book? Leave it on my doorstep and I'll leave a good one out for you. Now that's hard to do with a Nook.

But it is awfully convenient to be able to buy a new book online whenever, wherever you are.

Since I have already downloaded two books, it looks like I am keeping it, but I know I will continue to buy some books the old fashion way - like Nate's book (he should be paying me for advertising)

So do you have a Nook or a Kindle? Do you read books on your Ipad? Do you miss real books?

  1. struggling with the same thing. just started a book club with a friend and it is going strong. half of us have e-readers. I am so tempted! on the other hand, my den is lined with book-filled shelves and I love that, too! what's a gal to do?

  2. I have a kindle and I love it. Its especially great for trips when you don't want to lug a lot of heavy books around in your suitcase. I still buy design books and pretty coffee table books though. You can't replace those!

  3. You know it's funny, I don't love e-books. My daughter has a Nook, and I have an old Kindle that was given to me, and neither of us like reading books on them. I also have an iPad that I've read a book on, but didn't enjoy it as much either. I think I'm just too old-fashioned in some ways. I know, I'm crazy. I should just get on board, but I can't give up my paper books. My husband, of course, loves reading books on his iPad. Love those photos, by the way. That top one has always been one of my faves.

  4. My kids gave me a kindle for Christmas last year- sat in the box for several months. Now Samantha says it's hers and I still have books stacked on my nightstand.....took me a long time to accept the microwave and its my best friend now so I guess I'll take my Kindle back sooner or later! MW

  5. I would have said that I prefer books, but since getting the IPad I have read way more than if I were craxking open a book. I actually just got a Kindle Paperwhite so I dont have to share with the kids!

What I want to know if what are people reading, I need suggestions!

  7. I felt much the same as you when I got my Kindle. I love it. I've read about a hundred books on it and have a bunch more to read. There are lots of freebies out there to download!
Now my hubby is borrowing it, and sometimes we have to schedule our reading time so the other has it too. I think I'll be getting him one of his own soon!
I will always buy design books in hardcover though. There's nothing like turning the pages of those beautiful design pics!

  8. I am not a huge reader, but I do read on my iPad. The glare is kind of annoying. My husband is a huge reader so I gave him a Kindle and to tell you the truth, he reads on it and actual books equally. I stole the Kindle when he was reading a real book and loved it! But I hear you on the smell and look. xo

  9. Excellent information and facts. Only real difficulty I was basically receiving was viewing the pics. No idea exactly why.

  10. I have a kindle fire and I love it but have yet to read a book on it. I love hardcover books, especially vintage ones. I just picked one up from 1937 that was given to someone at the Westminster Dog Show that year. After I got it home I began to look through it and out fell her perfectly preserved calling card. I'm sure I'll get to books sometime but for now I just read a lot of articles and blogs!

  12. I have a Kindle, and find that if it is a good book I don't notice as I am lost in the story. I still read lots of real books though, although most are from the library as they are too pricey.

    Love your blog.
