I know Penguin Classics are big right now and I do love them. But I recently stumbled on the old Reader's Digest Condensed Books. Remember them? My grandmother had 3 shelves of them in her house. Did I save any? Hell no!
Did I say 1 or 2? Actually I ordered three. Can't wait to show them to you once they arrive. They are blue....I am so predictable. I ordered my books from here.
This book seller, Wonder Books, lets you buy them by the foot. Of course you won't know what you are getting until they show up but sometimes a little surprise is fun.
What do you think? You like?

They look great!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, they are fabulous!! Of course I'd get blue too. But are they Reader's Digest's or actual books? I guess readers Digests. Did your grandmother really have them bound so pretty? Cool.
ReplyDeleteI do like! So nostalgic and clever. Really like the one with the clover design. Reader's Digest headquarters (was) about 15 minutes from here, quite a lovely campus. Can't wait to see yours.
ReplyDeleteWho would choose any color other than blue??:) My grandmother had a ton of these as well- wish I had saved them now!
ReplyDeleteAwesome find - heading over to the site right now!
ReplyDeleteI have so been lusting over these gorgeous books!
ReplyDeleteI love!! My husband's cousin has the RD books and she filled a whole shelf with the books stuck in backward so that you can see the pretty covers.
ReplyDeletehow pretty, I forgot all about these.
ReplyDeleteWe had tons of these when I was growing up. I don't remember them being so beautiful...probably because I was more interested in Teen Beat at the time!
ReplyDeletejust purchased a couple for myself:)
ReplyDeleteoh these are SO pretty! and not so ubiquitous, which is nice.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool idea!! I used to read those and I think my Mom still has some, I 'll have to check!

I have a few of the Penguin classics that I received as gifts.
ReplyDeleteI have those reader's digest all over my house... a guy friend was moving a few years ago and found them in his attic and was throwing them out. He never understood why I wanted them!
I hate when I see something on a blog or in a design magazine and just know that my parents or grandparents used to have that exact same thing, only we just got rid of it. It has happened to me a few times and just drives me nuts.
ReplyDeleteLove your new books- I cant wait to see them displayed in all their glory!
I definitely need some good looking books!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea! I had a whole shelf of these when I was little. Boy does this post make me wish that I had held on to them!
ReplyDeleteThey're awesome!! Can't wait to see which ones you got!! What show are you going to see?? (how super exciting!!!)
ReplyDeleteThe penguin books are so pretty but the reader's digest books are awesome too. I can find them all day long for a $1 a piece at this one particular goodwill store here in Atlanta...and on 1/2 off day I stock pile them. My mom has inherited most of my stock pile because I can't find anywhere to put them. xo, Cristi
ReplyDeleteAH! I did the same thing upon seeing these over at Acanthus & Acorn. LOVE them. Excited to see what you do with yours...

I'm a book gal myself and have several of these. Actually bought two large boxes of them from a thrift store. Love the patterns. BTW, I was born and raised in NC, not far from Asheville, but now live in SC. (Am jealous of your proximity to the coast.Love that area.)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog. . .
I adore Penguin books, but I have to say these Reader's Digests are much better looking! They would look great on our soon to be bookshelves!
