So, I debated modern or traditional chairs for my dining room for ages. And I have been on the look out for the perfect set. I can't seem to find modern chairs (that I can afford), but I have found traditional chairs that I like.
The Louis XVI
Just like these. Do you like? I would recover them in blue velvet or faux blue leather. Bright blue.

Happy and bright.
I need to order them and that is part of the problem. They are...new. Which isn't necessarily bad, but I like to scrounge and find things in interesting places. Things that have a past and a story. And are cheap. I am having a hard time ordering new, easy but not interesting. Life can be so difficult.
What do you think? Order the damn chairs? Wait for 4 perfect chairs to show up in some dirty dumpster? Hold out for four fabulous modern chairs?
I would love 4 chairs like that too. So if you decide to order new let me know how they turn out! By the way I love the ikea rug. We're getting an ikea in Kansas City fall of 14. I can't wait!
ReplyDeletemaybe order two of the new ones and use fun substitutes until you find two (or more) vintage ones...?? mixing looks so awesome, I think.
ReplyDeleteHa, soul sister, I feel your pain! I know exactly how you feel - I'm so much more satisfied when I find the perfect items in a thrift store. Is that some kind of illness? It seems most normal people would love nice, new chairs. Although, I will admit that sometimes it's okay to buy new, and I think this might be one of those situations. Where would they be coming from? Ballard's? I found some really pretty blue velvet ones at Scott's but of course those are long gone. Sorry to ramble. My assessment is - depending on how desperate you are to have chairs - I think new in this case would look great!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kathy.....I do love to find the cheap version...but then there is always the cost of fabric to recover....and labor...so sometimes you come out better just buying what you wanted in the first place....
ReplyDeleteI would wait for vintage. I just can't justify buying new chairs for a higher price and then spending additional money on fabric and upholstery. I checked craigslist everyday for 6 months to find the perfect dining chairs. It sucked but ended up being worth the wait in the end.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time committing on chairs which is why our dining area is chairless. Although they are new...they are classic and fabulous. I think with your table and that rug, they will look amazing!!!! xo
ReplyDeleteJust because they are new does not mean they aren't interesting! True, they do not come with the story of the hunt, but every house deserves a good mix. I tend to think beautiful new pieces let cool funky old ones do their thing. Each elevates the other, know what I'm saying?
ReplyDeleteSissy, no idea if these will work for you, but if you are still thinking mod, but we have four, they are in nearly perfect condition, and I have a girl who goes between here and Wilmington pretty regularly who could probably bring them to you. You know me-- I'm sort of anti-new....
