Summer Rules

Tomorrow is the last day of school and the official start of summer for me. I am a little scared. Excited but scared. Scared of my kids and excited because I get to implement my summer rules. Thought they might be helpful to you as well.

1. A swim in the pool counts as a bath.

2. A swim in the ocean does not. Unless you rinse off with a hose afterwards.

3. Soap and shampoo are optional.

4. Cheese sticks count as a balanced meal if fried and dipped in marinara sauce and followed by a grape Popsicle.

5. Never serve your kids chilled juice boxes. If you do they will always want them chilled. My kids think juice boxes are supposed to be served at room temperature.

6. If you are 3 or under, underwear is an acceptable outfit.

7. Ring pops are an acceptable form of bribery.

8. Naps are mandatory. For me, not the kids.

There you have it, rules to get you through the summer with your sanity. What about you? Any helpful hints you want to share?

  2. I will add to that, although I'm not sure it applies in your home, that if you are under 3, a pair of foam antlers and nothing else is acceptable attire as far as the front gate. Andthat adding a gummy vitamin to any form of takeout makes it a complete meal.

  4. So unbelievably true. Ice cream is the best form of bribery at my house!

  5. I'm on board with all of those! And not #5 and #7 are true for us any time of the year, not just summer. Our juice boxes are always at room temperature. They come right out of the pantry. I was so embarrassed once when a kid came to visit and I had to squeeze out his juice box over ice. Martha Stewart's got nothing on me!

Great rules! I can't believe your kids are just now getting out of school. Mine have been out since May 23 - it feels like a long time ago!

  8. excellent. So right on with the juiceboxes! I remember getting the corresponding advice when I was a new mom not to warm bottles, because then the baby will always want it warm and that is just not always practical!

Summer sounds fun in your house.
