Sunrust to Sunburst

(MaryBen, this post is for you)
I have been looking for the perfect thing to hang over my bed for years. You know the perfect thing, it's like a boyfriend, you can't find it if you're looking. So I decided to break down and get something, something shiny to keep the wall company until the perfect thing shows up. But I didn't want to spend a lot on the substitute and while at Target I saw a maybe.

A sunburst mirror. I know, I know, who would have thought to hang a sunburst over the bed? You know why you see this in so many bedrooms? Because it looks good. And the price was right, $24.99. But the color wasn't it. It was a rusty, wrought iron color but at $24.99 I wasn't going to give up. Out came the gold paint and a sponge brush and...

Ta da. Shiny, happy, sunny mirror. I wanted it to look a little old and not perfect. It makes me happy.

Lights on...

Lights off.
I have a great vintage pillow coming that I "won" on Ebay. It is coming all the way from Canada and I think the seller is walking it here herself. When it gets here (are they still using the Pony Express?) it will add a great pop of color.

That's all the crafting I have for today.

  2. Love it, Sissy! Necessity is the mother of invention. I just found a sunburst at a consignment store for $20 that I'm loving. I currently have a sunburst over my bed too (shocking, I know), but I might switch it out for the new one.

Can't wait to see your Etsy pillow!

  5. OK, I think we might be the same person! I've seen this same mirror at Target multiple times and every time I've thought, "If I just paint that gold it would look amazing over my bed." Love it. You just gave me the push I needed to actually do it. It looks great! PS- love your headboard too!

  6. Very funny, that part about the boyfriend. But, you may end up in a lasting relationship with that "maybe" mirror.

  7. Good luck getting the pillow over the border. The delay might not be the seller, but Customs. You would think Canada/US, no big deal? When my husband and I lived in Toronto and I needed to send things to my adult children back in Dallas, I might as well have waited to fly it back myself. So frustrating.
