Cousin Earl

Do you like this lamp? I do. I think it is super cool (although saying "super cool" probably means I am not.) Please notice the marble base...

You can buy this lamp on 1stdibs for only...$5900. No, I am not kidding. See it here. Who is buying this stuff? Is it you? If so call me, I have something for you, but first I need to mark the price up, way up.

I know it is not exactly the same but I found this lamp's cousin.

Let's call him Earl. Do you see the family resemblance especially around the base? Where the 1stdibs lamp probably lived a pampered life with private schools, maids and chauffeurs, Cousin Earl has led a rough life. Drugs, alcohol, time on the street, none of it would surprise me.

Not to worry. I have rescued Earl from the streets and he is currently in rehab. The next step is to find a family to take him in and give him a good home.
Please pray for Cousin Earl as he starts this new chapter in his life.

  2. Hahaha! you crack me up! I think you should start a blog for your finds with names & sad stories behind them, kind of like "the pet of the week" feature we have in our Sunday paper.
    Great find! I'd adopt him.

  3. Too funny, Sissy! I love Earl too. I found his brother on our local CL but can't tell from the photo if he's worth my time. Don't you just love the prices on 1st Dibs? Did you see how much my "fish table" is going for? Bri found it for me, and it's a little surprising as well. I blogged about it yesterday.

  15. This just confirms my theory that people will pay what you tell them to pay. I say you put Earl on ebay with a starting price of $5K and see what happens! I'm pretty sure that's what they did on 1stdibs...

  16. I do like the first lamp shining in chrome color. That lamp is so techno. Perfect fit for modern homes. It's fantastic!. Only though, the price is a pain in the pocket. But i must agree, anyone who can afford to buy this truly gets what she paid for.

  18. My in-laws have Earl's twin brother, Elbert. We never have liked him, in fact, no one in our family gets along with him. He's been standing around so long, my in-laws don't even notice him any more. We need to re-unite these brothers and hide 'em out in an old shed some where. Whoever finds 'em and takes 'em, you'll be sure must really love 'em.
