Welcome and Help

There are two new blogs from my neck of the woods you need to check out. First, Birds of a Feather.

You have got to check out Ann and Hooper's great design posts. And especially Hooper's new bathroom renovation, see it here.

Next is Coastal Detour. A recent transplant to Southport, Blakley shares her love of design, fashion and whatever else interests her.

Want to see some of her must haves for Fall?Click Here.

Welcome girls!!

Now back to me!! I am thinking about painting my laundry room floors. I have two ideas...

Stripes. In the right colors this could look like a Dash & Albert rug.

Or this!! I love this!! I really want to paint this design on my floor, but can't find a stencil in this pattern. And it needs to be small. Much smaller. Any ideas?

  1. Oooh, thanks for the heads up on the new blogs. The painted floors look great. I have no stencil ideas though. Good luck!

  2. I love both your floor-painting ideas. The stripes would obviously be easier. I don't know of any stencils either. I guess it depends on how large your laundry room is (mine is tiny). If you do stripes it could lengthen/widen your space. While the other pattern would be extremely cool, it might be better in a larger space where you have more room for pattern? Just some thoughts. Whatever you do, it will be fabulous!

  3. love that second floor. do that! but even if your laundry is small, keep the design kinda big to make the room feel larger! (just my nonprofessional and unsolicited advice...)

I'll check out these new friends...

  4. My vote is for the second floor. It may be a lot of work, and I do agree with scaling down the size a bit, but you WON'T regret it! Only really fabulous people could pull off that kind of style- and honey, you've got it! I can't wait to see what you chose!

  5. Sissy, I was cracking up when I got your post this am with my bathroom. I thought, before reading it, wow, someone has a bathroom just like mine:) as for laundry floor, I love the second option. Ann will tell you exactly how to do it. She is getting ready to something similar on my client's wall. Thanks for the shout out:)

  7. Try looking at www.royaldesignstudio.com for stencils. They have some pretty cool designs to choose from. It might not be like what you have pictured but you might find something else that you really like.

  8. Sissy- Thanks for the heads up on the new blogs!

I like the second floor. That photo is just amazing but I don't think I could live there for more than two days! I'd feel like a rat in a maze!

But for a little space like a laundry room I think it's a great move! Could you make a stencil?

(p.s. I've had mybluehydrangea on my blog's blog list since I started. I love your writing)

  9. Go for the second floor, Sissy! Maryam from MyMarrakesh linked to some pretty amazing stencils which I can't remember the name of (sorry), also, Ed Roth's Stencil 101 Decor book has great ones for floors.

  10. Love the second floor. Have you seen page 30 in the new Anthropologie catalog? It's your floor and looks like she made her own stencil! Go check!!

  11. Totally the new floor on the second choice.
Keep it big enough to have an impact!
Blow a pattern up or scale one down, make a stencil and just overlap and apply....easy smeasy!!
    You can do it!

  12. Ohhh, I love the stripes. I was planning to paint my boys' room to mimic a shirting stripe, but decided to forgo that one for a plain floor. I have two more upstairs rooms to go, so it may still happen.

I feel like I've read about a company that custom-cuts stencils? Google it?
