I can't believe the summer is almost over. When I was younger I loved this time of year. Not because school was starting, but because with the end of August came the Seventeen Magazine back-to-school issue. It was as big as an encyclopedia and full of the latest fashions. Sitting on the beach poring over the sweaters, skirts and jeans was heaven. And it meant Fall was right around the corner.
The colors, textures and mix of patterns. Love it! I want to mix some patterns and look at some back to school clothes.
What about you? Did you read Seventeen? What's the adult equivalent, the September issue of Vogue?

great post, Sissy. I do love that mix of patterns. Yesterday, I looked at throws for my livingroom even though it's still over 90 degrees out. I must want fall, too...
ReplyDeleteI treasured that issue every year and would look to it for the newest trends for my back to school shopping. I remember one issue in particular with a lot of red plaid. I saved all those magazines for years, and then threw them away when my mom downsized. Looking through them again one final time was hysterical.
ReplyDeleteMy sister got the Seventeen subscription but I snaked it from her the first chance I got. Fall clothing is still my favorite! Growing up I had to wear uniforms everyday (boo), so when I did get to wear "civies" (short for civilian clothing), I really put a lot of thought into it. Can't wait for fall this year!!
ReplyDeleteI love pattern on pattern lately (and I have a major design crush on David Netto.)
ReplyDeleteI read Seventeen! I am totally craving fall and the September issue of Vogue was fab wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteahahaha, I was just thinking about that same Fall issue of Seventeen! I would get soo excited, it looked so thick and I would curl up and daydream that I could wear all the outfits, and get all excited for school to start. Ohhh, the memories.
ReplyDeleteLove those rooms! I hadn't read 17 in years until last month I grabbed my daughter's copy by the pool. Makes me feel young and old at the same time!
ReplyDeleteNothing beat coming home to a new, fresh copy of Seventeen lying on my bed! That's also how I felt when Domino arrived in the mailbox. Sigh...Love the fall-ish rooms! xo
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the back to school issue! Such happiness and the NYTimes fashion issue, then vogue September edition. Now I've converted to the home issues. Thanks for the reminder,
ReplyDeleteLiz
For me the equivalent is gearing up for football weather--I love watching UGA play. I totally remember that fall issue of Seventeen.....that magazine was so dreamy then.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for it to be 75 degrees!
I love the Fall catalog for Neiman Marcus. They always have beautiful pictures and great trends. I wish I could do some "back to school" shopping!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness yes how i remember Seventeen magazine, I loved it! There were days that all I could think about was perusing that magazine and planning in my head what i would go shop for!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories!
Terry
Thanks for the chuckle! I DO remember that thick glossy September issue. I used to devour it.
ReplyDeletei love all that pattern - my cup of tea definately! KG
ReplyDeleteYes! September issue of Vogue...which just arrived in my mailbox in all its big fat juicy glory today! Can't wait to devour!
ReplyDelete(and wear my Jcrew army jacket again...soon!):)
The September issue of Vogue will make my heart beat just a little bit faster when I get it in my hands. I just LOVE that David Netto room. It is brilliant! It can be found inside an incredible estate he just finished here in Nashville!!
ReplyDeleteomg, seventeen magazine.. was there anything better?! Thanks once again for spurring great memories! xx
ReplyDeleteI was a Seventeen Mag-aholic!! Oh, that brought back fantastic memories :)
ReplyDeleteI am so ready for fall! These temperatures in VA are killing me. I did a post about fall this week, and I've seen so many other posts around the blogosphere. We're all ready for a cool down, I think.
Happy to be your newest follower!
Happy weekend!! XOXO
Ah Seventeen Magazine. I have missed you over the years. I love the colors in these rooms and the inspiration of the fall season behind them. I came across your post this afternoon while browsing interior design blogs and the topic of window treatment selection was very interesting to me. It is true that you must dress your windows appropriately to bring out their true beauty. Thank you for writing and as a special thanks to you and your readers, I would like to offer a 20% off coupon using this code upon checkout: BLG20.
ReplyDeleteI was enthralled with the first fall issue of Seventeen! And I go w-a-y back to the early 70's when my sister was in HS. I had to wait for her to read it before I was allowed to even touch it. It was our Bible for all things cool because it really was the only high fashion mag for young women then.
ReplyDeleteIt was my BIBLE! I still remember the cover with Jennifer Connoly on there in an all plaid outfit. Ahh, I miss those days.....
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh, what a nice memory. I remember reading the September issue of Seventeen and dog earing pages of things I wanted/admired.
ReplyDeleteI loved Seventeen magazine! Sometimes the ensembles the models wore wouldn't have gone over so well at my conservative private high school, but I loved looking just the same.
ReplyDeleteOh, I loved my Seventeen magazine too! Remember when Cameron Diaz was one of their favorite models?? I swear she was in almost every issue...
ReplyDeleteToday, though, I get way more excited about home magazines. Most of the clothes magazines just depress me because I either can't afford the stuff, or it would totally make me look like a fat idiot! ;-)
Love the home mags when it's time for fall, though - I love seeing all the warm colors.
That study by David Netto is amazing - thanks for sharing!
Were we seperated at birth!! LOL. I loved Seventeen's Back-to-School issue. It was the thickest one of the year and held the promise of perfect hair days and gorgeous sweaters. I sent an issue to my one of my girlfriends from Univeristy as a joke. She's 46 and also loved the Seventeen B-to-S issue!
