Flower Power

Flowers have the power to transform a room.

And my mood.

I may have gone a little over board.

I got a couple of bunches of peonies and...

Some of these. Anyone know what they are called? They look like Dr. Seuss carnations but that can't be right, can it?

  4. Not overboard. Flowers are a treat.
Wow Sarah. I was just going to call the limey green flower a chrysanthemum. They look fabulous with viburnum flowers.

  7. I can smell your peonies from here.

When working at a retail nursery we called those chrysanthemums 'spooner mums'.

Perhaps I'm showing my age with this terminology !!

Flowers transformed my rooms, house, garden & LIFE.

  13. Peonies are such fleeting fancies. I love them, and your presentations of them. What a clever display with the ravenous fish!

I would agree with the responses that the green flower is a chrysanthemum. How clever you are to echo the color in one of your books.

  14. Hi there. I have been following (or lurking) your blog for a while and just love it! I live in the Raleigh area and have an idea that you may be interested in. THIS IS NOT A SALES PITCH AND THERE ARE NO STRINGS! There is an artist who lives in Asheville, and I think also has a place in or near Wilmington. She painted portraits of my children recently and asked me to rep her. We are new to this area, and I'm just not connected enough nor do I enjoy selling anything. Even though I feel her portraits are gorgeous and sell themselves. I did recently have a friend who used her. For referring her, I received a nice little payment (30%) which I really didn't expect. The artist is the stereotypical artist (head in the clouds) but is such a wonderful and talented person. I think she is struggling for work and has no interest or skill in marketing. I would be happy to send you information on her and pictures of the portraits she has done for me. She just needs some way to get the word out and you in turn could profit from it. Let me know if you're interested. (for some reason my Google account password isn't working, so I'm sending as "anonymous." Sorry! - allison@hornstronach.com. - Allison

  17. Flowers are a must in every room! I've been so bad lately, I still have my peach branches from February (yikes - for some strange reason the flowers still look fabulous).

  18. They're gorgeous. I think flowers are remarkable with all the colours and shapes they grow in.

  19. you can never go overboard on flowers! There are a couple of names for the green ones... I've always called them "Spider Mums" - love them!

  20. Flowers are a much nicer addiction, than say, uh cocaine or nicotine. So I don't think there's any harm in going a little "crazy" for flowers. Since they are loved by me maybe I'm just trying to justify my addiction to them. Oh well, as I said above, it could be worse! Down here in Alabama our peonies have played out, but oh, we so enjoyed them while they were here! The scent, sheer joy! Yours are lovely, isn't that mum just wild looking? Love it!

  21. Beautiful beautiful Peonies! My favorite flower. My mom has at least 9 Peony bushes & we used the flowers grown there for my wedding bouquet 2 years ago. How I love them!

    Great blog! ♥

  22. I also went overboard on some floral purchases at the market this weekend.

First was poppies, which I adore but decided are too delicate for the cost. The second was peonies. Is there any flower that screams "spring abundance!" like a big peony bloom? I always say I will buy them in spades when they're in season, then the cost pushes me away.

I also have a dozen roses in full blooom sitting at my desk at work in a mint julep cup. They brighten my day every time I look at them.

Love the goldfish vase, by the way. So elegant.
