Dark Tommy - Light Tommy

Do you know Tommy? Tommy Smythe from Sarah's House?

He's Sarah's hysterically funny sidekick who has an awesome sense of style.

Example # 1. Dark Tommy. His old apartment, all 180 square feet. Yes, 180 square feet!!

It is amazing how much style he can squeeze in a tiny space.

Loving the dark walls....

With pops of color.

Here he is on his bed/desk/sofa. As great as his place looks, the small space must have worn thin because he has moved to a bigger apartment...

Example #2 Light Tommy. What a difference white walls make!!

It's fun to see the different ways he has used furnishings and accessories from the first apartment- antlers, lamps, wooden boxes...

They have a whole new life against the white walls.

And now his bed is just a bed. I love this guy's style!! Which do you prefer? Dark Tommy or Light Tommy?

  1. I adore him. He is too funny. I want to hang out with him. And Sarah. I prefer light Tommy, of course, because I love color and like things light and airy.

  6. Love light Tommy best. You make a good point. I think small spaces can be so stylish, often because we are forced to be creative. Some spaces I admire most are the smaller ones. Have a great weekend, gal.

  9. Great post. I love so many elements from both sides of Tommy! Of course I gravitate toward lighter spaces but the chevron bed cover is fantastic.

  11. Such dark colors in a tiny space seems somewhere between claustrophobic and cozy. I don't think I could handle it on an everyday basis in my whole house. His lighter apartment seems much more open and welcoming thanks to all the white, but the furniture and his collections keep it cozy.

  12. I like Light Tommy the best, but my goodness, did he do a lot in his little dark apartment!

I made my husband watch Sarah's House this weekend for the first time - I think he even appreciated her talents!!

  16. ooh I can't decide! Maybe light tommy because I have a tendency to prefer light colors to darks. The white walls just totally change the look of his apartment. There is something to say, though, about the chicness of dark walls. I would love to paint a room in my home navy!
    XO fallon

  17. Oh wow, I LOVE the dark. I am crazy for dark walls. However, well, I love the light, too. I guess I would have a combination of both, either way, fabulous post!

  20. I love Sarah Richardson's shows and always thought Tommy was a great sidekick. After seeing these rooms, I think he needs his own show. I prefer the light (note: my husband was the lone male above who commented and preferred the dark - go figure), but I think it may be just because the dark space was SO small I would feel claustrophobic!

  26. Both spaces are lovely but I prefer the lighter apartment. Maybe because it's spring here in the UK.

  27. Oh Tommy, Tommy, Tommy - how can i possibly choose.

I don't think I could live with the Dark Tommy space, but I love the statement it makes!

I don't think I could live in the Light Tommy space either because I need colour on my walls - but I love the crisp clean feeling of the space.
