I am in desperate need of a table for a hallway off my entry. I have been looking for ages hoping to find something really special.
Or even this little beauty. But you only seem to find something special when you're not really looking. Going back through my inspiration files I noticed a lot of the entries I liked had similar tables.
Oh, so stylish. Love this entry. That door, that mirror.. I even have a little antique chest on a stand that I could put under the table or some baskets or garden stools...maybe it is a sign.
Then I saw this table on Caitlin Creer's blog. Don't you love it? It's the Malm Occasional Table from Ikea. Make sure you check out Caitlin's blog here, you'll love it.
I would have to paint it, but I could handle that. Probably a blue: bright, light, turquoise...we can decide that later. For now what do you think? Keep looking or bite the bullet and go Ikea?

Love that first console--how about this--go ahead and get the Ikea table and paint it but keep looking for the perfect piece--you"ll always be able to use the Ikea piece somewhere else:) Happy Hunting!
ReplyDeleteI think the first comment is right on the money. Come to Charlotte, go to Ikea with me {!!}, then if you see something eventually that you like better, big deal- it was only an Ikea piece. It would be too fab in turquoise. I love my turquoise piece every day. And the first one is my fave too! Oh also, I've been dying for the mirror {from Ballards!! Go figure} for forever. I wonder if it's still available? You know I have a problem with mirrors...
ReplyDeleteGo to Ikea.
ReplyDeleteI may go tomorrow to the one in ATL if the weather will cooperate (supposed to snow). Love that table! Wish I had somewhere to use it.
I'm with anonymous up there, especially if you have an Ikea nearby (unlike me, who would have to pay $300 for shipping on an $80 table). It will be a good placeholder piece, and you could always paint or cover it in mirror from your local glass shop to change it up. It's one of those pieces you can really use anywhere. I have the mirrored table in the 4th picture, and all it really is is a Parsons table with mirrors stuck to it. If you want to spend a little more and not have to worry about the hassle of painting, then West Elm makes a cool Parsons table for about $300 in lots of different colors (though sadly I don't see the turquoise option anympore):

I've always loved the console (& everything else) in the first photo, I'm a sucker for mirrored furniture. However I think the ikea option would be a nice clean look without spending too much $$$.
ReplyDeleteIkea is so hit or miss, but if you found someone that actually has the table and can vouch for it, I say go for it.
ReplyDeletep.s. that table looks a lot like the WE Parson's Desk...which came in blue at one point in time :)
I loved that table in Caitlin's room, its so pretty! I say check out craigslist, maybe you can find it for a deal then you wont feel as bad when you want to replace it. If you cant find it that way, I say just go for it- its a pretty standard table and you could always use it in another part of your house.
ReplyDeleteGo for the IKEA table! It'll look fab once you paint it! :) And you could keep stalking craigslist like Linds suggested until you find what you really really want??

ReplyDeleteI am in the same pickle! I just posted about my console woes yesterday. I love what you have found and am on my way to check out that SWEET console on ikea.com! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHope you don't mind, but I've been tagged, so I've just tagged you Ms. Blue Hydrangea! http://pineconecamp.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThe green console is gorgeous! Wish we could fit something like that in our front hallway.
Love, love, love the first table. You should get it. Do not like the 1/4" pic of you ! Needs to be bigger, please !
ReplyDeleteI think you should go with Ikea. They are so reasonably priced if you find something else you like-- you can give it away, or find another spot for it! I think its really nice.
ReplyDeleteIkea all the way. It's so inexpensive so if you get it in your home and you don't like it your only out a few bucks. Plus once you paint it, it will be a knockout.

I love the malm Ikea console! I want one as well which I will probably paint whit or grey. Happy 2010!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. Go for it - with Ikea prices, you can't go wrong. You've also got several "blingy" versions in your idea pics - why not silver leaf yours a la Jenny via Little Green Notebook? Think it just might be killa!!
ReplyDeleteI just jumped when I read your post - that is my apartment with the green Ikea table! I worked with sweet Caitlin and am so happy with the outcome. I wanted exactly what you do, simple and stylish. It was easy to assemble and is very stable. We sanded it, put two coats of paint (color-matched to West Elm's signature green), and a coat of poly. It comes with wheels, so we took those off and put plastic pads to protect the floor. You can't go wrong! I love MyLittleHappyPlace's silver leaf suggestion! Enjoy - please post when you get yours!
ReplyDeleteHey Sissy! We are headed to ATL this weekend to visit Susan...we were already planning an Ikea trip. I could bring your new table to you and save you some shipping. I might get one too!
ReplyDeleteyou could totally get the look at Ikea! and when the "right one" does come along, you can toss it (or find another place for it) without regret.
