It's been cold here.
Really cold. Like 20 degrees. I live in coastal North Carolina, that's cold. On top of that, I have a rare condition called "Freezaphobia." This is a fear of being cold.
And Lord, if I get a chill, I have to take a tub to warm myself up. Sounds like your Granny doesn't it? So I did it...
I bought a pair of Uggs. I woke up Saturday morning, it was in the 20's and I said "That's it! I called Canady Sports Center (1/2 mile from my house) to find out if they had a size seven, Tall, Classic in Chestnut. 10 mins later my tootsies were toasty. I have been happily clomping around ever since.
Yes, I know the fad started about 10 years ago. I almost got some then. Soon everyone had a pair and Target had some knockoffs. Too trendy for me, I passed. And have regretted it every winter.
I did it yesterday too -- but for my 2.5 year old! Sigh. But, she loves them and looks so warm and cozy! Congratulations -- you won't regret it! Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI am wearing mine right now! I wasn't sure if they were work appropriate, but I thought the freezing cold would excuse them for a couple of days!
ReplyDeletetoo funny. I yet to have a pair but I wish I had some this week, it's been cold.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with classic as well. And you won't regret it, I love mine, freezing cold weather or not.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any yet but I do have some "bedroom boots" that are made of pink cable knit sweater. Don't be jealous.
ReplyDeleteI haven't bought a pair yet, although I may cave this winter.
ReplyDeleteI've had mine for 5 years and I love them -not one regret!
ReplyDeleteuggs are the best. I've worn them for a few years and they are so warm. Tall is deffy better than the ultra tall (ultra tall make me feel like I'm trying to recapture 18 again...)
ReplyDeleteYou won't regret the purchase. I second them being "classic"!
p.s. I just bought the husband a pair (*gasp*) we live in an artic tundra though, so he looks apropos...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy every minute :) You will love them forever. xo
ReplyDeleteSam said the girls at UNCW wear them year round even with baby doll dresses- she wears her knock offs with jeans! But this weather is crazy isn't it? I cannot function with icicles hanging off my chin
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a warm pair of boots today! It's absolutely freezing up here in NJ! Spring can't get here soon enough.
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you. I wanted them really bad about 10 years ago. I held off. 5 years ago, I bought my 2 year old daughter some. So cute. But still, I held off. "Too trendy," I thought, just like you.
ReplyDeleteThen, it got cold down here in Louisianer. I mean REALLY COLD (for Louisiana). We even had snow. I think I counted four whole flakes. I started eyeing my neighbor, who owns every single style of Uggs ever made, enviously. I am thisclose to breaking down and heading over to the local outfitters to buy some. I might even do it today.
I think the tall classic ones in chestnut you bought are perfect and will always be in style. The ultra tall ones are cute, too, but I think you'll wear the classic ones more. Any other style still looks too trendy to me.
Love them, but for comfort and warmth, NOT looks. As long as you don't wear them with a jean miniskirt you're fine!
ReplyDeleteBe careful on ice, though. While they are warm, they don't provide much traction (I know from experience!)
I resisted the urge for so long as well. I remember when I moved to Los Angeles five years ago and every girl at my school wore uggs with mini jean ripped skirts. I swore on my life that I would never own a pair. My boyfriend bought me some for Christmas last year and now I must say, I don't know how I survived winter without them :)
ReplyDeleteI love mine - super comfy!!
ReplyDeleteI've had mine for about 3 years and I still love them! Although when I was wearing them the other day I did wonder if they were dating me in terms of fashion. I like your take on it - they are classic and here to stay!
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike. I am fortunate enough to have two daughters that share my shoe size (also a 7). They are not allowed to wear them at school so I have stolen them and have worn them for the last two days. it is not my favorite look but cozy toes trump any other option.
ReplyDeleteI bought my first pair of them 8 years ago and have not looked back. I don't care how ugly they are or how many people think they are a HUGE fashion no-no, when you live in Boston and winter lasts about 8 months out of the year they are the best thing that ever happened to my little toes. I'm so with you, I HATE being cold and my uggs have saved me from sitting on the sidewalk crying of coldness many times :)
ReplyDeleteThey are wonderful. Trendy or not trendy, they just feel good and are so warm, and easy to pull on!! Enjoy and stay warm!!
ReplyDeleteI too just bought my first pair this year, and now I have two pairs I am so hooked. We have had beyond frigid weather and so much snow it gives me nightmares these past two months so they have come in soooo handy. I think they have been around long enough to now be classic and not just a trend.
ReplyDeleteThis is my 2nd year for mine ~ black, tall, classic. I won mine!! Yes, signed up on the Uggs web site and won $100 gift certificate. I adore them...now I want the house slipper. It's extremely cold here right now, supposed to be in the teens tonight with a wind chill of 2F. Walking my dog is just miserable for both of us when this bitter wind is blowing. I do wish he had little Uggs too. :-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy them and stay warm!
Another great post...and thanks so much for your kind comments! More on that project will follow, its a long ski season:)
ReplyDeleteI have at least two pairs of Uggs,(your comments are like "an Ugg confessional") and I also highly reccommend the Adirondack style (of Uggs) and those big furry Technica boots (mine are black) they are quite popular in NY. They are not high fashion for sure, but my feet are warm (and dry!)
I have 2 pairs of boots, one pair is about 10 years old and the other pair is about 5 years old and I absolutely love them! I also have 2 pairs of the backless slippers and they are great! I live in California where the coldest it gets is around the 40 degree area but I could not live without my Uggs in the winter time!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I would do with out mine {i'm actually wearing them right now}... My husband bought me mine for a Christmas present when we were dating 7 years ago. He listened to me... So I love them even more! They're the BEST!
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
Alexandra
if i could wear them to bed i would... does that just say it all? now take step 2 and purchase the slippers... with the rubber sole... so you can wear them inside or as shoes... it becomes an addiction... i now have 3 pair boots and 2 pair slippers... i think i need rehab.
ReplyDeletex pam
I'm loving the sorel boots in the first two pics! But I do have some uggs that I live in these cold days!! :D :D
ReplyDeleteI do not have uggs... I swore them off long ago, however, I am secretly jealous of your toasty toes-- mine are freezing here in Maryland in my collection of ballet flats. If it keeps snowing here I'm going to have to give in myself!
ReplyDeleteThis post is hilarious to me bc I had the exact same train of thought. But unfortunately for me I had to order mine. I decided to go with the bailey button just to be different. So, here I am with these freezing temps wishing mine were on my doorstep. Come Monday they will be but then the freezing temps will be gone! Oh well! I hope they stay a "classic" bc I finally bit into this ugly trend.
ReplyDeleteI was just like you the first year they were big but got them the next year and have been a believer ever since. I love wearing them with sweatpants and a tshirt on Saturday mornings. So comfy (and WARM!)
ReplyDeleteI have always thought that they were sooooo not me...if this weather does not get better here...I might just break down and get a pair for wearing around the house! Look...you have a new follower...it's ME!!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend and try to stay WARM in this COLD COLD weather!
Blessings,
Linda
Just please don't buy Crocs! Just kidding :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you got the Uggs! Boston is about comfort in the winter!!!
i still have the same pair i bought 10 years ago (the worse for wear believe me...i mean these have seen a blizzard in the grand canyon!) and as ugly as they are and as trendy as they were or whatever they are now...i NEVER regret owning them when it's as cold as it is right effing now.
ReplyDeleteand i think i agree with your statement..that they are beyond trend and have become a classic. yes.
I did that just this year too...I fought it and thought the same thing you did. Now I can't take them off and my husband is so tired of seeing them...i even wear them with my p.j. pants - memphis even feels like the tundra right now!
ReplyDeleteI love Uggs. :)
ReplyDeleteI finally got a pair last year. I will probably die in a pair of them even though I hear talk that they are considered by some to be middle aged mom shoes. I LOVE that you call them classic.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my blog! I can tell I'm now hooked on yours!! xo sharon
I don't have them but since I do have Freezeaphobia I should get some!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a pair. I'm more of a duck boot (like the first two pics) kind of girl.
ReplyDeleteI felt like I wrote that post. I just broke down and bought a pair in mid-December despite the fact that I live in Charleston, SC. When I went to Atlanta for market and it was snowing...my purchase was 100 percent validated. I got the exact same pair (all the other versions seem too cheesy) and I agree they are now a classic! I was above jumping on the bandwagon when they first came out and even enjoyed silently mocking others for it (Ugg-ly...didn't I come up with that joke?).
ReplyDeleteI loved your post!I moved to Greece last year and when I started wearing my uggs in the winter everyone made fun of them.Except the trend finally made its way here this year and now everyone is wearing them.So no you are not the last person on earth to own them.Greeks are too.lol.
