Is it Wrong...

For your Style Icon to be 88 years old?
But not just any 88 year-old.

I am talking about Iris Apfel.
The crazy lady of fashion.

I have been collecting pictures of her for a while and then, while over at Flourish Design and Style, I got a nice surprise. The Peabody Museum in Salem, MA. is holding an exhibit of her clothing. 80 outrageous and fabulous outfits.

She could put together some crazy get-ups, but they worked. It just goes to show that fashion should be fun.

Oh, how I love this one.

Even though she is known for being outlandish, I think a lot of her outfits are right on the money. For example, i would wear this...

And this...

And totally this!! I love a simple outfit with a big mama necklace. This is exactly what I would like to wear..except for the cane.

Same necklace, different outfit, still fabulous.

Don't you wish she was your Great Aunt and then you could borrow her fabulous feather wrap.

Is it wrong that I would rather go to Massachusetts to see a fashion exhibit than to the Smithsonian to see our Nation's history? Just asking..what about you?

Show runs through February 7th. Want to read more? Click here.

  1. Great post! She is fabulous. My family has some crazies, but no one with good clothes. I'm in Massachusetts, so give me a heads up if you decide to take the flight up here.

Also, is it sad that I've lived in the Boston area for 6 years and never made it to Salem? Well, now I have a reason (and maybe I'll stop by the witch museums while I'm there!).

  2. I had never heard of her before. She is fabulous. I looked at the pictures and immediately thought of Tavi, the style rookie, in about 70 years. :)

  7. Iris Apfel is one of my favorites! She is an inspiration! I am so happy to see your post, celebrating her fabulous style. I have been one of her long time fans, and look at her as a role model for aging in style. If you don't have her book, "Rarebird of Fashion, the Irreverent Iris Apfel", by Eri Boman, Iris Apfel, and Harold Koda, be sure and order it. It is a must have for all Iris Apfel devotees. I first learned about Iris Apfel from Sheila Ellis, in Santa FE, NM. Sheila Ellis is the owner of a boutique called "Samarkand", that sells very dramatic clothing, that is very, Iris Apfel. If you are ever visiting Santa Fe, be sure and stop by! I know that you would love it! Thank you for the inspiring post!

  18. I am all in your blog bizness tonight! I love this post and think she is a fashion rock star. Who says turning 80 means you have to wear polyester and orthopedic shoes?

There is this older lady here in Charleston that I worship. She only wears black and/or white because she feels like it is always classic...and she always looks AMAZING!
