Short post today. I am teaching myself to sew. I did a little sewing years ago. But the machine I used was kind of old timey. This time I have borrowed a fancy machine. Maybe too fancy.
It would probably help if I had a craft room like this...
Instead of working on my dining room table.
So far I have learned two things about myself.
I am not very patient.
I'm teaching myself to sew now too! It's really satisfying to finish a project and a have a product. I'm in the process of trying to organize myself and all the stuff that comes along with sewing - I wish I had a craft room like that too!

ReplyDeleteWhat a great thing to learn to do all over again. I grew up sewing all of my clothes and when my girls were little, I sewed their dresses. Somehow that seems (seams... no pun intended) like a lifetime ago.

ReplyDeleteSo funny, I also used to sew on an ancient machine of my mom's. I need to take some classes to learn the right way to do things. I have a new machine, which makes life a whole lot easier! Also, I understand the impatience thing, when you start a new sewing project, it's so exciting, but half way through I just want someone else to finish it for me!!
ReplyDeleteI Love sewing! I love it sew much that for my high school graduation I received a sewing machine! I have not sewn in a while but I do plan on picking it back up very soon!

By the way. Old sewing machines are sometimes better for basic things. They break less often and are easy to navigate. I learned to sew on my grandmothers treadle sewing machine. It worked just as well as an electric.

ReplyDeleteI took about 6 sewing lessons after my son was born so that I could make him Halloween costumes the way my Mom did for me. Those six lessons really taught me a lot. Becoming proficient at sewing takes practice and patience. I hope you'll stick with it.
ReplyDeleteI am so intimidated by sewing with a machine! I can do basic stuff (hems, buttons), but anything else is beyond me. I've been inspired by this, though, and maybe I'll try to find someone to teach me.

ReplyDeleteYou'll be so glad you stuck with it in the long run. My grandmother taught me to sew long ago. Right now I'm taking a beginning industry sewing class to improve my skills. I love it.
