Craft Warning

Warning: I am about to talk about a craft project. Sometimes I can't help myself. The urge to craft is just too strong. An idea had been brewing ever since I saw a fabulous little girl's room on Full House.

Remember these panels? Well I needed something to put on the walls in Butterball's room. We moved him to a big boy bed and now had an entire blank wall. In a few years we are going to move him to the guest room, which is bigger and brighter, so I didn't want to spend too much time or money on art.

So I got some foam board and covered it in fabric I already had, some of it thanks to Paula. This part was really simple, I just used spray glue. Did you even know that they made a spray glue? Sure the floor got a little sticky, but it needed a good scrubbing anyway.

One of the finished panels.

There was a slight delay while I convinced Bill that this would be a fun project for us. Thankfully he wanted to play in a golf tournament this weekend so when he wasn't playing golf he felt guilty enough to help me. Can't you see the excitement in his face? He is working on the next step: making a frame from a 10 foot piece of molding.

Slap on a little paint...

Contain your enthusiasm while you nail the frames to the wall...

And it is done. Now wasn't that fun? And easy. Well, for me anyway. I'm more of the idea person and Bill is the mule. But he is a willing (if grumpy) mule.

I need to decide if I am going to put art inside the frames, use them as bulletin boards for Butterball's artwork, or silhouettes of all three children. This is just a rough draft of Cricket's cute little head.

So..thoughts, ideas?.

  3. They look great! I love the fabrics you chose. If it's possible, my husband looks even more grumpy when he helps me out.

  6. Those panels look great, Sissy! Now, what to do with them?! They look great as is. I like the silhouette idea that way you can still see the great fabric.

You're so crafty! I need to take a page out of your book!

  8. Dying over the cuteness of this idea! My husband went away on a golf weekend and all I got out of it was a morning off from the preK drive...and just one way..I still need to pick up! I must be doing something wrong! :) And where did you get that adorable tp? My son's room is all cowboys and indians...Cath Kidston style..we need something like that! :)

  14. I don't know your husband, but he must be one helluva guy. I don't think he looks grumpy. He's probably just concentrating on his work and on what else he can do to make his wife's life a little bit better. He does look a little tired, however. Perhaps you should greet him at the door tonight with a cold beer and let him relax while you prepare his favorite meal. It would also help if you could keep the children quiet. They probably annoy him from time to time. And lastly, he probably doesn't really want to hear how difficult your day was. I'm sure it was nothing compared to his.

Like I said, I don't know your husband. I'm just guessing.

  15. I think they look terrific standing alone, but I can see how you can easily add almost anything. I love the combination of patterns & colors. Great project.
    Best,

  16. Your husband and my husband should get together and get excited about using power tools to fulfill their wives hairbrained wishes. Those panels are precious! And, um, hello, is that a gingham painted floor?!

  17. This came out great Sissy! I actually really like the panels by themselves - just the fabric. I'm more of an idea person but I didn't marry a man who likes to play with tools. I really just need a handyman on retainer!

  24. Like it! In fact just got an idea for my kitchen. Your idea would work well with tea towels. PS- spray glue is here to stay but you gotta be careful with the fumes! Spray outside if you're able to.
