So Proud...

Look what I did all by myself!

Yes, I actually grew something. Something yummy I can eat. I feel like a cross between Johnny Appleseed and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

In all honesty, I had a little help from the sun and the rain and blah, blah, blah, but I did pick the figs all by myself. This may inspire me to plant something else. Of course, other crops may need tending to and that is not my strong suit. My fig tree is not attractive, but it is very independent.

So what about you? Have you ever grown something you can actually eat? Weren't you proud?

  2. awesome. what will you do with the figs? do you all eat them as they are or do you make something...preserves, etc? Now, THAT's a whole other story, isn't it...?

We grew corn and tomatoes once in the back when my son was around 5 or 6 and he had a blast with the whole process. Now it would bore him to death!

Are those fatsia leaves in the background? I have several of those plants and adore them...

    fun post, S! Love, Donna

  4. My favortie thing to grow is herbs! I love to snip what I need for meal prep! Growing figs sounds like a great idea. I think next summer I'm going to do containers on my deck with fresh fruit trees. It's something I've been thinking about...your fresh figs have confirmed my desire!

  8. I just did a post yesterday about figs-- too funny. Right now I have 3 lemon trees growing in pots. My son and I took seeds from a grocery store lemon 1 1/2 years ago as a little science experiment. They haven't grown fruit yet, but yes, I'm very proud!

  9. You should be proud. All our vegetable garden grew this year was weeds because we didn't quite get around to planting anything. And I love that artichoke bowl! Where did you get that?!

  10. Looks good enough to eat! I am impressed that you can grow them. Here in the midwest it can be done, I just haven't tried. My Greek grandmother grew them and would bury the tree every winter. She would be smiling at your bounty, as I am.

I was proud of my snap peas, until my then 3 year old went out and ate them all, right off of the vines and, for some strange reason, growing beets gave me a kick.

    Love your blog.

  11. No I can't say I have ever grown a thing to eat. YOU, however, should be proud on several notes. Of course the figs look beautiful and yummy, and your presentation is stunning with the white artichoke and the glass vases with big, gorgeous leaves. Well done!!

  12. Good for you! i want a fig tree for our yard-- we all love figs. I always get a little tired of the garden this time of year-- taking care of it is getting exhausting, and my tomatoes don't taste good when it's this hot!

  13. Congratulations! That's no small task. I do not have a green thumb but do love my produce. Those figs look scrumptious! And, I'm equally intrigued by your artichoke bowl. V. cool.

  14. I am impressed! We have only been able to get one ripe fig a week on our tree! We figured they were not in season yet. They are really bitter if they do not have large pink spots on them, but the bugs always get them first!

They look beautiful in that artichoke bowl too!
