I Am So Mad I Am Seeing...

Red. Why? Well, last night while I was fixing dinner Butterball was sitting at the table eating his Popsicle. If he cries long enough and hard enough he gets his dessert before dinner. Just a little trick I learned at my Mommy of the Year class. While my back was turned he decided to get up and walk around and leave large pieces of his Creamsicle on my beach sand colored rug.

I didn't panic when I found it 20
minutes later. Melted. It was a Popsicle for heavens sake. It wouldn't stain. Wrong. That dad gum Creamsicle left 2 large red stains on my rug. I emailed the company to ask why they would use a dye that would stain on a children's dessert. Really, they are mainly for kids right? I haven't heard back. I will probably get a coupon for more Creamsicles....

Well, I have learned there are two types of people in the world, those who love red and those who don't. Guess which type I am? It's not that I don't have a lot of red in my house..I don't have ANY. At Christmas I did add a few touches in my den, here but that is the only time red makes an appearance.

I like it in other people's homes.

Sometimes I even love it.

But I don't want to live with it on a daily basis.

Even when it is done well.

Really well.

But what to do? Add some pretty red accents to pick up the bright red in my rug? Ban Creamsicles from my house? Make Butterball wait until after dinner for his dessert? Learn to love red? What about you? Do you love red or are you more of a blue person?

  1. BLUE, of course, but you know that. Don't like red one little bit, esp. not smeared into my good friend's rug. Oxi-clean? That's supposed to work miracles...

  2. Try Carbona Carpet Cleaner...you can get it right at the grocery store. Red bottle, w/ a little scrub brush top. It works wonders...has gotten red wine out my oatmeal carpet. Good Luck!

  3. I love red, but not in the form of a stain on my carpet. Have you called a carpet cleaning company yet?

  5. I am totally with you on the red thing - it also never enters my house except at Christmas! Another blogger and I decided it is because we don't look good in the color red in our wardrobe and it has influenced how we decorate our homes. My sister looks great in red and red looks great in her home. Good luck with the stain! Peroxide got red wine out of my white sofa but I don't know if it is safe for your rug or not.

  7. My mom swears by Windex. Seriouly, I thought that the father in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" who sprayed Windex on everything was a joke. But my mom actually does that!
Good luck. I'm mentally prepared for the day one of my boys stains my yellow couch.

  9. I don't like red at all. It gives me anxiety!!

  10. I have a little red in accents, like that bottom picture - although no solid red furniture for me. It looks circa 2002 Pier One faux-Shanghai or something. If I ever see something fantastic in red, though, I won't hesitate to buy it... it just hasn't happened yet.

Have you looked at Haley's Hints? That dude can figure out how to clean anything. He uses Borax a lot, but I don't know if that would fade your carpet or anything. What about a throw rug for the layered look?

  11. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE red. Have you tried Totally Awesome cleaner? You can buy it at Dollar General, Big Lots, WalMart. It is a yellow cleaner in a spray bottle. It works on EVERYTHING (including red wine on a white silk couch...don't ask!)

  12. I've always used a mix recommended by one of the carpet companies -- something with peroxide and amonia, then a white cloth, plastic wrap, heavy book. But my daughter's friend just told us about this: http://cleaning.lovetoknow.com/Red_Kool_Aid_Stains_Out_of_Carpet
which I was sort of stunned about because it involves using heat (an iron). She said it took every red stain out of her carpeting. Let us know how you do.

  13. Oh, that can be so frustrating. Looks like you've got some great tips for trying to get the stain out. Hope they work.

  14. I love red, but don't use it in my interiors. I'm a blue and green girl when it comes to my interiors. However, I did promise my husband that he could have a NC State room one day, but it will be tasteful red room like the rooms above.

  15. Oh, that sucks!! Have you tried Gonzo? It's a great cleaning product that doesn't bleach. It got red wine out of my sand-colored chair. Granted, the fabric is microfiber, but still.

  16. little pops of well placed red. If it makes you feel any better my four-legged daughter decided to have an assplosion in several rooms in our house yesterday. It's official we have to replace the carpet in the bedrooms this summer. We had to do it eventually, this just expedited the process.

When told about the mess, second hand, by the husband, the first words out of my mouth were "did she hit the living room rug?" Thankfully not.

I love her, but I may have had to put her down :)

  18. Oh no!! While I love to admire rooms by Miles Redd also, I cannot live in them..so I would be seeing red also-
Hopefully some of the great stain removing advise will work, I will have to take notes for our next accident ;)

  19. i just checked the ingredients on those creamsicles and besides red #40 (hello cancer)
it also has hydrogenated oil (hello cancer again)
and while the verdict is still out on splenda im gonna go ahead and call it.. what's up cancer?
don't give your child these things sissy. they are not good for him even in small doses. there are LOADS of fruit juice colored and sweetened popsicles on the market these days. even cream centered ones. with no harmful dyes or preservatives.

  20. More of a blue person, but I like red. You should know, though, that every time I write a post about red flowers, I think to myself, "I know one person over at Blue Hydrangea who isn't going to love this post!" See, we're always considering your feelings about red (which makes the Popsicle story pretty entertaining)!

  22. I had the unfortunate experience of spilling red wine on my cream colored PB loop rug!
I saturated the spots with Woolite Oxy Deep Power Shot, and, no lie, this stuff took the wine out!
Have used since on just about any spill you can imagine and it works like a charm...good luck...I hate red too, except on my lips and my wine.

  23. oooh someone else who feels my pain! All of my parent's hand me down furniture was red. When I could finally afford to get my own stuff--NO RED. I was so sick of red. But yes, I do see a red room every once in a while that makes me think...ooooh....red. :)

  25. oh my goodness! I'm with you, like red when I see it, but can never live long with it in my own house.

  27. I do love red...have had deep, gorgeous red wall in my family room & kitchen for nearly 10 years. But now I'm thinking a change would be nice.... Popsicle blue might be nice change.

  28. That sucks!!! I'm a freak aboutred as in none in the downstairs cause we have these purple, yellow, and green stain glass windows and all I think is "crazy person" when red enters. There has got to be some miracle product to get it out. if not, toss it if you want to return to sanity.

  29. I LOVE RED!!!! I'm painting my dining room red this weekend and my kitchen cabinets are red, but I think I would hate it as a spot on my carpet.

  30. Ditto on the red! I have used it in decorating others homes but there is not a spec of it in mine! Not even at Christmas! I have one UGA hat that I wear to watch games but that is all I can muster...thanks for yet another reminder of how nervous and anal I will be when I have kids.

  31. Thanks for your sweet comment! It put a smile on my face which was very much needed. I was reading it while getting a pedicure, the first one I've had since october, yikes!... and while I'm reading, the lady is telling me how awful my cuticles are. The nerve HA!

You had me cracking up with the call to the Popsicle people. I COMPLETELY know what you are going through with those darn things. I still can't get over how badly they leave stains. I too thought they would come out easily, but learned the hard way like you. Now he's only allowed to eat them while he's wearing nothing at all. Yup, I strip him down like it's my job. Kid loves those pops what can I say. He gets them before dinner often. We must go to the same Mother of the year class haha!

  32. Happy New Year, Sissy! I've been out of the loop (but dontcha worry, I've been checking in on you every now and again). I am waaaay more of a blue person. I like pops of red every now and again, but in general, I don't like it too much in home decor... but a red lipstick, heck yeah!
