Before and After - Home Sweet Home

Thought I'd share my own before and after. When we moved to Wilmington four years ago there were about 4 homes on the market. We looked. We liked, but something was missing. We rented. Six months later a friend suggested we look at the house next door to her. It was vacant. It was dated. It was perfect. Well, perfect for us. We like a project. We usually buy the ugliest house on the street, fix it up and sell it. Not this time. We are here to stay!

Home Sweet Home
Great floor plan, double lot, older, charming neighborhood...
Formerly owned by Carol and Mike Brady.

It just needed a little TLC.

Front - After
I love it, but we are getting ready to do some work on the entry. It looks a little plain and under-scaled. I know. I need to add some color with plantings...We used Tom Thumb Landscaping. That is why the plants are so small. I have big ideas, but little time.
It is a work in progress.

Oh look, from this angle you can see a little color.

Back - After
I actually like the back better than the front. More personality I think. And the awnings, they make me happy. Except during hurricane season. June 1 - November 30. I only have to worry 6 months a year....
And I am not crazy about how the driveway runs right into the back doors. Forget to take your foot off the gas and you'll end up in the den. We will fix it...someday, one day. In the meantime, easy on the gas.

My husband hates this picture because some of the grass is dead. What is it with men and their grass? Does extra green, thick grass make you more manly? Don't tell him I said so but I think he tortured it to death. Watering, fertilizing, aerating, mowing...who wouldn't curl up and die?

That's all for now. I hope to show you some updated pictures soon.
Hope you all had a great weekend!!

  1. Sissy,
You and your husband are magic makers!! Wow, what an amazing before and after transformation. Your friend must be so pleased that you bought the house next to her.
So, you are beautifying the world, one house at a time.

  2. Sissy, I never see your house from the front- almost didn't recognize it! It looks fab. I want to live next door to you. Next time you have to show all your wonderful interiors. Do you have before and afters of your upstairs?! Oh, and I laughed about the grass. It is definitely a Y chromosome thing. xxoo.

  24. Wow, Sissy, your place is gorgeous! Nothing like the Carol Brady special you bought! I am really in love with grey and white together, and love those paint choices. I'd love to hear about all the renovations you did sometime, it looks like you really transformed the entire space.

  25. I LOVE this! In this day of McMansions and bad architecture (in my humble opinion!) you took a great family house and turned it into a beautiful home on a gorgeous, huge lot! I think you all have done a beautiful job. It is so much fun to see where our favorite bloggers live. Thanks for sharing!
