I am Loving...

This skirt...

And this vintage pattern.
It took me ages to track it down, but thanks to Etsy, I am the proud owner of a McCall's hippie/tunic pattern from 1969. Ever wonder what kind of shape a 42 year old pattern is in? About the same shape as a 42 year old woman. A little wrinkled, a little crinkled but plenty of life still left in it. Now I need someone to whip me up some hippie tunics. Preferably someone who is not bothered by a little mold. Anyone?

DIY That Works!!

So..I have this lamp shade that was broken several years ago. I have been looking for a new shade ever since. It is a large oval and I have not found the right size or shape. In truth I haven't looked that hard, I just turned the lamp at an angle so the crack wasn't so noticeable.

If you look closely, you can see the cracks. This weekend I decided that one way or another I was going to fix the shade.

First I thought about wrapping strips of fabric around the shade, I was going for an Anthropologie look...not really working for me. Then I remembered Janelle from Isabella and Max Rooms had recovered some shades in fabric and they looked fantastic. Even better? She had a step by step post with pictures. Check it out here.

I followed all her directions, first cutting my fabric at a slight angle to make the pattern lay straight.

Then I tucked, glued and taped. And guess what?

It worked!! It really worked!! I love it. It was still drying when I took this picture, so please excuse the tape. Today I will go and get some ribbon to finish it off. Do you know how many half finished projects I have in my house? I can't believe I finished-or almost finished-this one and I really like it. A huge thank you to Janelle for the excellent tutorial!! Be sure to check out her blog here.

P.S. My walls are not blue zebra-I wish. I just couldn't get a good photo of the fabric against the plain, bland walls, so I taped up some of my favorite fabric.

Yes, I'm Talking to You...

If you are the heartless soul who stole these from me on Shop Goodwill, I want them back!

Mail them to me and there will be no hard feelings. (Truthfully I will probably be a little pissy for few days and then I'll get over it). What? You think you won them just because at the last minute you bid 50 cents higher then me? Crazy talk. I'll have you know I was in a meeting at my children's school while you were up to no good. Shame on you!

And what's with this? Four Vallerysthal glasses selling for $320 on Ebay. And the bidding is not over yet!! I was going to add a few more to my collection, but you can forget that!! Has everyone but me lost their minds!!??

Who Do You Think You Are

I know this is random, but have you been watching Who Do You
T
hink You Are? on NBC. It is on at 8:00 on Friday nights, but through the magic of T.V. I have the series taped and can watch episodes whenever I want. Because, of course, I am way too busy on Friday nights doing something fabulous and entertaining that may or may not include bathing children, folding laundry and cleaning.

If you haven't seen the show yet, celebrities trace their family history while we come along for the ride. And these aren't C level, Dancing With the Stars celebrities, last year they had Sarah Jessica Parker. History and fashion, it was a good show.

I just finished watching Vanessa Williams and Tim McGraw. Two different episodes, they are not related.

Can't wait to see who is next out of this group.
Have you seen it?

Did You Guess...

...Where I went on my road trip? Furbish! I have been wanting to get to Jamie's store for ages and after a morning spent at the flea market, a friend and I headed over to check it out. The store does not disappoint!

So much goodness all in one spot!

Need a dose of happiness after all the winter blahs? Furbish is the place.

Pillows, lamps, furniture, accessories..it was all good.

Jamie and I chatting. Actually I might have been begging: "Please come to my house, I need professional help. I am having trouble making a commitment to fabric."
(BTW aren't those chairs amazing??!!)

I did buy myself a few treats. This pillow...love.

Adorable owl pitcher.

And nesting bowls. Evidently happiness comes in threes.

And I am considering this happy little fellow. Don't you love him?

It was great to see Jamie again (that girl has style) and she sent us off with shopping bags full and a list of other great spots to hit. We left Raleigh exhausted but happy. Shopping takes some serious stamina!
Have you been to Furbish yet? What are you waiting for? You'll love Jamie and her wonderful, colorful store.
Can't get to Raleigh? Click here for the online store.
And don't forget Jamie's fabulous blog, I Suwannee.

We had a busy Sunday...

Butterball signed all his own Valentines cards,

And I worked on teachers' gifts.

It was a fun afternoon.

And I had a fun Saturday. I went on a little road trip.

I'll give you a hint: " I have never in all my life seen such."

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Mick Jagger

Would it be weird to have Mick Jagger in my bathroom?

Or at least a photo of him?

This is actually the picture I want, but I can't seem to get it any bigger. UGH!! With my limited computer abilities it is a wonder I get a post out most days. Click here to see a full size image.
Did you see it? Isn't it great?
I think I might order him.

Update: Kathy just e-mailed me this larger photo. Thanks Kathy!!!
I know the bathroom is not the first place you would think of for The Rolling Stones, but for some reason I think he would be happy in there.

Thoughts?

Second Chance

I have saved this picture for ages. Don't even remember where I first saw it. Maybe Cookie Magazine? But I loved this shower curtain from Anthropologie. I wish they still carried it. I would love to use something similar for curtains in my living room.

Then I saw...

This from John Robshaw. Doesn't it look exactly the same?

I am tempted to order some king size quilts and make curtains out of them. Wouldn't that be fabulous??? Thick and quilted and and full of tribal, lapis love.

P.S. By "tempted" I mean I will think about it day and night and drive myself crazy, but I won't actually order the quilts. This is what I will be thinking..."It's like the universe is giving me a second chance, I should order them. But they are expensive and I would need 4-6 quilts. But I have loved this pattern for years. It is a classic. What if I see something I like better tomorrow?" It is exhausting being crazy. Aren't you glad you aren't my husband?

P.P.S. I just checked John Robshaw's site again and you can buy the fabric, still the quilts would be cool. I need to find out a price per yard so I can add it to my craziness. Thanks! Sissy (If my sister Susan is reading this, Ainsworth & Noah carries this line)

Amazing DIY

Recognize this wallpaper? I have posted about it before.

And it's even better in orange.

Danika from Gorgeous Shiny Things loves it too and decided to do it herself.

No, not hang the wallpaper herself; she decided to paint it herself!!! Yes, I said paint. Can you believe it? You have got to check out her DIY here.

Too Old?

I am tired of the cold. I miss my cut off Levis. Shorts and tights: only for those under 30? Thoughts?

Vintage Lamp Love

I posted this picture a while ago. I have been in love with those lamps and on a search for my very own...

I found one on Ebay and, while waiting for it to arrive, I got my West Elm catalog. Hmm..looks similar...same little round head. Maybe they are related. (And no, it is not for sale. Just a prop to drive you crazy)

Then my very own vintage lamp finally arrived in the mail. Isn't he the cutest? He would be perfect, if he were brass,, but don't say anything. I would hate for my new addition to think I discriminate against chrome. I actually believe in equal opportunity for all finishes.

He is visiting in Butterball's room right now, but may be moving to another room over the weekend.

What about you? Chrome or brass?
